I celebrated my first birthday on April 21st at home in Port Albert with my Mommy and Daddy, Patti and Randy, and some of my relatives. We had a great party on Sunday and I thank everyone for their nice presents and Mommy and Daddy for the new puppy. The winners of the draws include: Seniors, Vanessa Alton, Tanya Turner, Rachel Fairbairn, Mathew Sproul, Sheila Hyrnerp and,Scott Nicholson. Junior winners "include Kirk Tyler, Danielle Cranston, Traci Curran; Jackie Pentland, Kerri Snowden and Sarah Buttee. Winners for the Candy Guess were, senior, Jill Clynick and Melissa Logtenberg and junior, Blair Bieman and Melissa Daer. Winner of the staff draw for a cake made by Mrs. Liddle was ,Judy Mathers. Kindergarten 2 had fun on Friday doing Bubble Art by adding detergent to their paint. The results were very interesting. On Monday Apr.14, an "Information Night" was held at Brookside for parents of children in Kindergarten to Grade 3. A slide presentation was shown of pictures taken throughout the primary classes of children at work and play. , Carol Simons from the Board office spoke on the "whole" language program and used l u_t__t, d the overhead to illustrate examples and techniques. On Thursday, Dr. Zed visited the school library. During the day, pupils from Grades 2 to 6 came to the library and helped Dr. Zed perform some of his experiments. Before leaving, Dr. Zed gave each student a momento of his visit. Dr. Zed, alias Gordon Penrose, has writ- ten` two books, many columns in Owl magazine and also performs in the Owl television program. Spring is the order of the day in the primary classes with each grade working on. activities relating to a Spring theme. T e RQom 4 Alphabet is filled with rabbits rig now, Iribbling away on rabbit reading, rabbit writing and rabbit math. Rabbit Jack Chisholm shared two of 'his rabbits, Roadrunner and Thumper with us. Rabbits Krista Ritchie and Heather Robin- son have been the "Special Me." Mr. Clarke also shared two other woolly white animals with us. They said "Baaa"! On Monday, Apr. 7, Susan Bell visited the two Grade 5 classes to conduct a workshop on "Blindness." The students worked at four different cen- tres and each pupil had an opportunity to ex- perience tea.,.. r�r-- perience "blindness" by wearing different glasses. These students should be much more aware how people cope with blindness. Glades 7 and 8 attended a production, "How I Wonder What You Are" put on at Robertson School by Theatre Direct on Fri- day Apr. 18. This was an excellent presenta- tion dealing with various kinds of handicaps and ways of socially accepting people with such handicaps. On Tuesday teachers from Brookside - visited other area schools and on Wednes- day and Thursday many teachers from other schools in Huron visited Brookside classrooms.
