A CENTURY OF FASHION — Representing the decades of fashion

Hensall and Ila Mathers, McCurdy. The fashion show was part of
the entertainment at a dinner for all female employees of the Huron
County board of education sponsored by the FWTAO and organized
by the Huron County Women Teachers Association.

The llth Spring Rally of Zone 8. of the
United Senior Citizens of Ontario was hosted
by the Golden Gate Club of Goderich at
MacKay Centre on Apr. 16 with 156 register-
ing. There are 16 clubs in Zone 8 which takes
in most of Huron County.
Past President Percy Blundell was chair-
man for the occasion owing to the absence of
President Irene Davis. Afte6, opening exer-
cises, devotions were Gond tedby. Rev.
A.C. Young. Goderich Mayor, Eileen
Palmer, extended a welcome to all visiting
clubs.
Reports of Zone 8 were given by Secretary
Mildred Thomson and Treasurer John
Deeves. Reports of the 16 clubs were given
by the secretaries.
The slate of new Zone officers for 1986 and
'87 was elected by nominations from the
floor.
In recognition of her dedicated work on
behalf of Seniors, Irene Davis was
nominated as a candidate for an Ontario
Senior Citizens award.
The ladies of the Golden Gate Club served
lunch. -
The afternoon program commenced with
a sing -song with Adelaide Feagan at the
piano.
Nola Love introduced the guest speaker,
Erich Freiter, a native of Polandbut presi-
dent of Canada for several years.. He told of
conditions in Poland as he found them on a
recent visit there and compared them with
life in Canada.
He felt .every Canadian citizen should ap-
preciate the freedoms and opportunities
here that are so often taken for granted.
Jean Sinnamon, President of the Golden
Gate Club, thanked Freiter for a most in-
teresting and informative talk and
presented him with a gift.
Harry Baker, a tormer President of Zone
8, presided at the installation of the new
Zone Officers as follows: President, Elmer
Hayter, 1st Vice Pres. Minlue Rumball, 2nd
Vise Pres. Donald Haines, Secretary, Keith
Rowntree, Asst. Secty. Jean McEwen and
Treasurer John Deeves. Incoming Presi-
dent, Elmer Hayter, asked for the support of
all Zone 8 members in carrying on the work
Of the oi"gantion. •'

and Francis Schram were enjoyed by all
present.

Alex Hamilton of Grand Bend.
A bus trip is being planned for Zone 8
Seniors to visit the new office building of the
United Senior Citizens of Ontario in Toronto
which was officially opened on April 15.
Zone 8 Fall Rally will be held in
Dungannon.

meeting of Goderich Garden Club
The regular meeting of the Goderich
Garden Club was held in MacKay Centre on
Api-11'16 with 30'meinbers in. attendance and
Jean Barnett presiding.
The Hensall and Community Hor-
ticultural' Society has extended to the
Goderich club an invitation to attend their
meeting of May 19, which will include a
plant auction and a speaker. Several
members showed an interest in attending.
Barnett's report' of a successful and
rewarding meeting of .the Ontario Hor-
ticultural Association District 8 at Owen,
Sound on April 12 was read. '
Highlights of the Owen Sound meeting
were talks by Doris Lightheart of
Ridgeway, Ontario, on lilies, and Barry
Watt of Mississauga on plant nutrients and
insecticides. Both speakers were much ap-
preciated, the information they offered be-

were a feature of the, beautiful home and
grounds of Mr. and Mrs. Lightheart, which
they showed in a set of pictorial slides. Watt
also showed slides. He illustrated familiar
and not -so -familiar garden bugs and what to
do to combat them.,
Lesley Zolob, the new proprietor of Mar-
tin's Market on Highway 8, was introduced
by the president. Zolub donated a lovely
hanging geranium for a raffle. It was won
by Edith Lockhart.
There were two capable and
knowledgeable speakers on the evening's
program. Barnett spoke on roses, taking her
audience from her first home in married life
in Yukon where' her homewas surrcunded
by nothing but crushed granite to her pre-
sent home on Black's Point Road where she
and her husband have created a lovely

slides of her roses, including tea, florabunda
and grandiflora types, with colours ranging
from pure white to vivid orange. Jean
answered questions at the end of her
