Goderich Old Dockhands win Kincar
It seems that when there's a champion-
ship on the line involving overtime, a
Miller rises to the occasionfor the
Goderich Oldtimers.
In the Godetich Tournament in
February it was Ron Miller who .wolfed the
game -winning goal to give Goderich the
championship.
Sunday in Kincardine it was Terry
Miller's turn.
$filler converted a Rick Sowerby pass
into a goal at 2.04 of overtlxne to lift
Goderich to a 4-3 win over the Kincardine
Bullshooters as Goderich won its division
in Ike 1001 Annual Kinlgardine Dld'star's
Tournament.
The victory was the third in four toturna»

Goderich won its opening round game 1.0
• over the Bullsbooters, tied Lucan Irish
Flyers 1-1 Saturday and 'then earned a
berth in the division championship with a
2.0 victory over London in its third game
Saturday.
The championship game was thriller to
the end as both teams held the lead in the
game. The teams were tied 1-1 after one

The Goderich Machinist Atom A hockey
- team capped a 45 -game season by winning
the consolation championship at the 27th
Annual Mildmay Hockey Tourney this past
weekend in Mildmay.
Coached by Ray Volland and Bob
Dickson, Goderich defeated teams from
Waterloo, Meaford, and Kincardine after
an initial defeat at the hands of Listowel.
Backed by strong goaltending from Chuck
MacLennan and Jason Duckworth
throughout the games, Goderich started
slowly, improved through each game to "
claim its third consolation championship
this season.
The other championships came at tour-
naments in Seaforth and Lucan earlier this
season. They lost their only other tourna-
ment consolation championship gamy in
Port Elgin in overtime.
In the first game, Listowel broke open a
close game with two goals in the final
period. with Miller scoring for Goderich
and they played through a scoreless se-
cond period to set the stage for the final
period.

Goderich ahead 2.1 but Kincardine tied the
score midway through the period and then
went ahead 3.2 with a goal with just 45.

Cliff MacDonald scored what proved to
be the winning goal in the first period after
converting a pass from Sowerby.
In its second game against Lucan Satur-
day afternoon, Goderich settled for a. 1-1
tiewith each team scoring in the second
period. Sowerby scored the lone Goderich
goal with Miller assisting at 12.10 of the se-
cond period.
In its final round robin match, Goderich
defeated London 2-1 to earn a berth in the
division ahampionshIP
The'teams were tied 1-1 after one period
of play with Muller scoring the Goderich
pal with just six seconds remaining.
Miller then set up Scott Macaulay for what
proved to be the winning goal in the second
period.

Jason Jeffrey, the game's MVP, scored.
In the second game, Andrew McLarty
scored his second goal of the game in
sudden -death overtime to lift Goderich to a
4-3 win over Waterloo.
Goderich trailed 3-2 after one period of
play and McLarty scored the only, goal of
the second period to tie the game 3-3. The
teams played through a scoreless third
period and it wasn't until midway through
the overtime that McLarty scored with
Jason Cook assisting. Chris Dickson was
selected the game's MVP.
Jason Volland and Chad Papple scored
the other Goderich goals.
In
the
third gam Gor:,AIL..a,. • got a twe-
goal
goal performance from Jason Jeffrey and
Paul Wheeler, the game's MVP, added a
goal and an assist as Goderich defeated
Meaford 4-1. Goderich trailed 1-0 in the se-
cond period before scoring four straight
goals to win the game. Jamie Stanley had
the other Goderich goal on an unassisted
effort. Jason Cook chipped in with two
assists.
In the championship game, Goderich
spotted Kincardine a 1-0 lead early in the
second period and then turned Chad Pap-
ple loose as he scored three straight goals
to lift Goderich to a 4-2 victory and claim to
the consolation title.
With Kincardine leading 1-0, Papple
scored two goals in the second period to
boost Goderich into a 2-1 lead heading into
the final period. Midway through that
period he scored his third straight goal to
increase the lead to 3-1. Brother Todd
assisted on two of the goals and then set up
Jeffrey for the fourth Goderich, goal.
Papple was selected as the game's most
valuable player.

Marion Mills Memorial Trophy
Susan Cook of the Goderich Figure
Skating Club has been named the recipient
of the Marion Mills Memorial trophy for
the intermediate or senior skater in the
club who has shown the most improvement
through the past year.
Several members of the Goderich club
attended a March Break school in Exeter
including Suzanne Schultz, Danette Hor-
ton, Angie Skelton, ivieiissa Hruden and
Tara MacKinnon who passed her Canasta
Tango primary dance test.

Two tioderich skaters passed tests at a
High • Test Day in Brussels on March 29.
