Photographer tells garden

Spring officially arrived Thursday and some area fishermen
couldn't wait to wet their lines. W'hile.area rivers are off limits to
anglers until the opening of the fishing season in April, many are
trying their luck in river mouths in the Huron County area. Several

Garden Club from Don Hasson off Bluewater

After business proceedings, which 'Presi-
dent Jean Barnett opened with a poem
about "sunshine" to celebrate the arrival
of spring, Enid Bell introduced Mr. Hasson
who advised the group on the most suitable
photographic equipment to use, how to
freshen up or pose flowers for, the camera,
selection of light and focal distance and
many other techniques. •
The speaker illustrated his talk with col-
our slides he had taken in his own garden
and public parks. In thanking Mr. Hasson on
behalf of the members, Jean. Peart assured
him that they had all been put in touch with
a further enhancement of their gardening
hobby.
The club discussed the Mayor's Blooming
Contest 1986, based on a written report
received from member Heather Lyons,
who could not be present due to a foot injury.
The comprehensive write-up was dealt with
fully, and plans started for the club to do its

In other business, Past President Norma
Hazlitt reported on a meeting she had at-
tended March 4, and a meeting of the On-
tario Horticultural Association of which she
is a director, to be held at Owen Sound on
April 12. She outlined the agenda of the
Owen Sound meeting, the annual meeting. of
District 8.
In the morning, Doris Lightheart will
speak on lilies,dwith films illustrating her
talk. The roll call will allow each club two
minutes to tell a ,bout"the highlight of the past
year. There will be a photo competition,
with a closing date for entries of March 31.
Jean Barnett will represent the club at the
April 12 meeting and Norma Hazlitt will at -I
tend as a director.
The meeting discussed the Horne and
Garden Show to be held in Goderich Arena
April 25, 26 and 27. This matter was left open
for further discussion.
Vi Rutherford reported membership at 51.
Each member present received a begonia
tuber as a gift from the club.
