sophisticated designs
Many women°today are postponing
marriage to establish a career or to ex-
perience a more independent lifestyle.
Nearly one quarter of all women getting
married this year will be over 25. As a
result, different taste trends in tabletop
'merchandise, specifially fine china pat-
terns, are emerging at bridal registries
across the country.
According to Alice Kolator, National
Tabletop Consultant for Lenox China and
Lenox China Crystal, who conducts bridal
events nationwide, "There is certainly a
difference, according to the age of the
" pride, in the types of fine china patterns
selected. Very romantic floral patterns
appeal to a younger bride, whereas a
bride in her late twenties or thirties
prefers a simpler banded look or
sophisticated asymmetric floral
designs."
A new fine china dinnerware collection
from Lenox, "The Metropolitan Collec-
tion," was designed for the older bride
with its5erysophiticated and fashion-
.oriented look that will appeal to an older
couple's tastes and lifestyle.
/When selecting fine crystal to coor-
dinate with their fine china patterns, Ms.
Kolator observes that older brides prefer
a more traditional look such as heavy cut
designs or patterns banded in platinum
or 24 -karat gold. Younger brides.often.
favor taller stems with frosted bases or
colored bowls.
Ms. Kolator also points out that older
couples usually have more established
social circles and, therefore, entertain
more often than their younger counter-
parts. "I always advise couples who
entertain regularly not to be afraid of us-
ing their fine china; It's .'remarkably
durable, and with proper care, it should
last a lifetime."
