Flyers advance to sem finals
One series is already history and three
other teams face elimination as the
Goderich Recreation Hockey Leagbe's
quarter final series are underway.
Only one team, the Bedford Flyers, have
advanced to the League's semi-final. The
Flyers disposed of Clere-Vu Rockets in two
straight games in the best -of -three quarter
final by 8-7 and 2-1 scores with both games
going into overtime.
In the other series, Hodges defeated J.H.
Jets 5-4 to grab a one -game lead and Mur-
phy's clobbered O'Briens 13.8 to also grab
a one -game lead in the series. In the final
matchup, Sunset shaded Ernie's 6-5 to
grab a 1-0 lead in the series.
In the Flyers -Rockets series, Bedford
scored four goals in the final period to
force overtime and then won it 8-7 on a goal
by Brian Moody. Moody provided the of-
,Jensive spark for the Flyers scoring four
goals and setting up another. Tearer -mate
Mark Frayne scored ori goal ou an
unassisted effort and set up four others for
a five -point night. Don Shropshall and
John Vanloo had two goals' apiece, for
Clere-vu.
The second game was a defensive affair
that was broken up at 5.31 of the first over-
time period by Ron Corriveau on a feed
from Jerry Rozendal an.d D. Erb as the
Flyers wrapped the series with a 2-1 win..
The Flyers took a one -goal lead in the first
period on a goal by Moody but Clere-Vu
tied it in the second on Greg Burns' goal.
In playoff action Sunday, Sunset got a
three -goal performance from Phil Arthur
to defeat Ernie's 6-5 and grab a 1-0 lead in
the series. The Raiders led .2.1 after one
period and.4-3 after two periods but Sunset
outscored the Raiders 3-1 in the final
period to win 6-b. Steve Uuai., 'Wayne Rau
and Ken Straughan had the other Sunset
goals.
In the other playoff game Sunday, Green
Machine and O'Brien's Porkers scored a
total of 21 goals as the Machiners
slaughtered the Porkers 13-8 in teh goal
fest. O'Briens led 4-1 after one period but
the Machiners roared back to outscore the
Porkers 4-1 in the second period and tie the
game 5-5. The final period was a goalie's
nightmare as Murphy's blasted in eight
goals compared to three for the Porkers.
Bruce Schoff led the scoring with four
goals while Ron Sowerby, Ted Ingham and
Brian Allen had two goals apiece. Scott
Macaulay, Dan Duncan, Paul Kelly and
Roulston scored two goals each for the
Porkers.
The series between the teams continues
tonight ( Wednesday) at 9.30 p.m.
Midgets tuneup for playoff with win
Last Thursday the Goderich Legion
Midgets played against Lucan and pound-
ed them 14-3.
The game got off to slow pace until
Goderich scored four goals before the five

as if they would come back and tie it up
when they scored two goals twenty-one
seconds apart. But, at the beginning of the
second period Goderich scored five goals
in an eight iwnul,e span to take a cununan-
ding 9-2 lead. Lucan and Goderich traded
goals to end the period.
Again in the third period it was all
Goderich as they scored five more to finish
the game.
Goalscorers for Goderich were Tom
Bean, Darrel Durnin and Mark Cauchi
with hat tricks, Ian MacKinnon (21, and
singles to Neil Rodger, Dave Duncan and
Ryan Kelly.

Rod Nurse (2), MacKinnon (2), and singles
to Brian Chambers, Gary Erb, Duncan,
-. Kelly and Matt Wilkinson.
The Midgets have one game remaining
against Lucan in Lucan.

part in the Shamrock League playoff in
Dorchester on February 22.
