arelearning more about Nursery Rhymes.
They are also studying about Snow and
Winter.
Greg Hazlitt's Grade 7 continues to share
books and thoughts- with their Grade 2
reading "buddies". This week each Grade 7
student has chosen a suitable library book to
share with their "buddy".
Sheila Clarke's Grade 2 alphabet journey
into space is just about over. They've visited
all the planets and have designed their own
planets too! To learn how'rockets work, they
had a balloon travelling across the roof i acid
make rockets of their own. One day they
made Martians - and ate them! To end the
unit, they're planning and drawing the
perfect planet together. It's called
Alphaperfect! Scott Faber was their special
Me last week.
Judy Jewitt's Grade 2, is planning a day of
snow activities outdoors. They will be
snowshoeing, measuring depths of the snow
and making snow snakes. They will also
have snow relays and a Fox and Geese
Game.
Shelley Worsell's Grade 5 class had a hot
dog lunch on Friday. Special thanks to
Jamie Chisholm, Dana Park, and Jodie
Riley for bringing dessert. The class is
working on a unit about pigs this week. They
are writing in Pig Latin, designing pierced
nose rings for pigs and writing pig tales,
among other activities.
Oh Friday, January 31, Heather Young's,
Grade one, had a hot dog party to say
farewell to "snowy" January. They are also
learning the initial and final consonant
-sounds! They love to make rhyming words
too.
In Lois Tebbutt's Grade 3 and 4 class, the
children have followed up the video pro-
gram, Art Scape, part 1 and 2; with their
own creations of design. They have used
pastels and paints to re-create their own
abstract designs.
Grade 4 is pleased to learn their teacher,

D.D. Graham and daughter, Adria arrived
home from London last week. Adria is mak-
ing progress and Mrs. Graham will be back
in her classroom next week. The class ap-
preciates Mrs. Carol Nivins' competent help
in the class while Mrs. Graham was away. -
'r'he students are starting a unit on the Inuit
People.
In Judy 1VMathers' Grade 1 class they have
been talking about bears - big bears, black,
bears, teddy bears, Care Bears, every kind
of bear. On Tuesday the children, brought
their bears to school and had a Teddy Bear's
Picnic. It was fun!
Lois Ottewell's Grade 3 class welcomes a
new student, Michelle. McClinchey who has
transferred from Victoria School in
Goderich. They've been reading a ad doing
activities about Pinocchio. They also saw an
excellent video tape of his adventures.
A Regional Enrichment. Workshop, "Bliz-
zard of Books", waseld at Brookside
School on Tuesday,and Wednesday, January
28 and 29, conducted by Deb Heslinga,
Huron County co-ordinator for Enrichment '
and Louise Sygrove, Area Resource
Teacher for this region. Participating were
four pupils from each of five schools,
Holmesville, Colborne, Victoria, Robertson
and Brookside.
Mona Mulhern, artist, from Goderich,
came on Tuesday to share some of her ideas
and techniques with the. children. After a
session of photography and brainstorming,
the children made books to express their
ideas. .
Some excellent products came out of this
experience and these will be circulated
among the participating schools. Much ap-

Jill Clynick accompanied the girls' team
and Charles Liddle accompanied the boys'
team to the Volleyball Tournament in
Goderich on Friday which involved ' five
schools. The girls put forth an excellent ef-
fort and made a good showing in competi-
tion with a first place team. The:boys show-'
ed a tremendous effort .
