Hi,
name is Ashley Good and I would like
to join your Birthday Club. I will be one year
old on Monday, December 17.
I would like to say "Happy Birthday" to
my Aunt Brenda, Uncle Wayne, and friend
Ryan whose birthdays are also this month.
Bye for now,
Ashley.
Hi,
My name is Steven Suplat. I was four
years old December 4.
I live on Bennett Street with my mom and
dad and my big brother Danny and my big
sister Sherry.
I had a party last Wednesday with my
friends.
I want to say "Happy Birthday" to my
Grandpa Brindley and my Grandma Suplat
who had their birthdays recently and my
dad who is having his this week.
Bye for now,
Steven.

I think, somewhere over the years, I have it hasta be with a smile.

sor. There is always something happening sant. Some have done more decorating than

youngster anymore), still liked chicks -'or It was nice to hear the girls and boys of
something LIVE at Easter. They found her
a wee duckling. Now, they have a big dog -
real pussycat to the family - ( he'drte
he knew I called him a pussycat bec u
MY big old cat slapped him around when he
was a baby and he probably hasn't forgotten
it). Anyway he didn't know what to do with
this little quacker and very soon he knew -
whether he liked it or not - he had become a
mother to a baby duck.
That duck walked all over him - followed
him everywhere. Even when he ran away,
that duck followed - running a bit and flying
low trying to keep up. He got lost one time
because he couldn't keep up and a man who
lived many blocks away went to the Mac-
Pherson home and asked if they had lost a
duck - the only duck in that large area and
everyone knew him.
So duck and Doggis - my name for the pup,
were together again and there was a big reu-
nion with family and friends - everyone in
the area were happy to see him home.
Every day people walked and drove by the
house to see this duck. Others brought their
children who got very excited and they
would chase the poor thing all over because
he wouldn't sit still, sto they could pet him.
It was pretty hectic there at times.
I was there one time when three children
were walking by and one little girl spotted
the duck. She screamed and arms out dash-
ed towards the. bird and "mother" dog grab-
bed her and held her. The dog didn't even
hurt her - he didn't even growl but it sure
scared the kid to pieces.
For a while it looked like the MacPher-
sons were about to be sued and the dog put
away - but somehow it was all straightened
out. Today.I was talking to my son and he
said, "Did I tell you we lost our duck?"
He said it was inevitable since so many
children were coming there to play with
him. He had learned' he could cross the road
but took his time walking back. Cars were
stopping right and left to let him cross safe-
ly. Finally someone aimed a car at him and
that was the end of Mr. Duck,
I'm surprised there hasn't been a
neighborhood funeral for him. But anyway,
everyone is sad and Don said, ;You
wouldn't believe how much we miss him"
I can believe it! Pets have a way of
' becoming a very big part of the family and
after you have them a few years and really
get to know and understand their language,
it is hard to let them go.
Isn't it wonderful - and exciting to mix
with the crowds of shoppers? Some of them
are fussed and worried looking - they're the
ones who try so hard to impress someone at
Christmas and worry if they will -like the gift
and worry, worry and ruin their day com-
pletely. A gift is a gift, they should be happy
someone cared enough to give it.
Each store has its own kind of excitement.
I like to watch faces and listen to the chatter
when it is happy. When they are griping,
tossing things down after a quick look, I
move away fast because it upsets one to see
things . messed up because it doesn't suit
their frame of mind.
I guess the merchants are used to this
type of customer - not much they can say but
__ iiw local band at the mall. It really sounded
nice, made it more Christmassy.
I'm afraid I haven't much to give but my
work - my love - I hope people understand. I
have always been very appreciative of any
gift or act of kindness - always. As a e'hlld,
gifty gifts were very few but I can recall my
heart bursting with love and excitement - if
it wasn't something you wore - even then I
loved the things I received at Christmas -
but some were more exciting than others.
I have really enjoyed 1984. Last winter we
flew to Tampa where my son Doug and his
Madeline met us. We had had a wonderful
Christmas with Aon -and Jean, all their
children, grandchildren and greats loo, so
we also had Christmas in Florida with Doug
MacPherson, family and another wonderful
time - with swimming yet.
I enjoy driving around, recalling the
streets to so many places again, then settl-
ing down to "work". Art lessons, playing
pool with the boys, playing shuffleboard -
which is very competitive, and a couple
times a week the Bridge games.
We were there when winter struck - and
the following damage was overwhelming.
Hard to believe. I'm glad we have winter
resistant trees and plants. Everyone was
warned to leave the damaged trees until
spring. Then new branches started showing
on the main trunks. It was sad, really. But
when the plants and trees greened up and
started to bloom, it was wonderful,
beautiful! There is a very large tree - Kapok
Tree - huge, spreads like our maples but the
branches are SO big - then it breaks out in
flower - HUGE flowers, 10 or more inches
across, very large petals and a ring of
stagliens in the centre near two inches
acitbbss. It is hard to believe the flower is so
1arte!
I'm looking forward to going back again -
any day now! Have a lovely and happy
Christmas, a fun New Year. Happy, happy.
Take care of each other.
Love, Martha.
