Competition was keen at another well -
attended Goderich Chess Club meeting.
Welcome to newcomer ,Pon Wilson, who
now shares top spot with Dennis Little in
the honorary members standing.
The club's other Dennis (Dennis
Luiting) had a field day py picking up
three wins to put him at the head of Level
4. The single games played by both Doug
Brindley and Walter Gottschalk were vic-
tories. Gerry Ross had an acceptable two
and one evening:
The most games played by one person
were five by Robert Nau; closely followed
by John Crawford's four matches. If chess

Goderich Optimist Belles demolished Mit-
chell 8-1, in an Ontario Ringette Association
game played Saturday, in Mitchell.
Allison Graham paced the local girls with
five goals. Debbie O'Brien, Stacey Rean and
Angie Chisholm scored singles for Goderich.
Vicky Vanderburgh assisted on two goals;
while Lori McCartney, Marysu McLennan,
Stacey Rean and Pam Wilkinson each earn-
ed one assist.
TWEENS
The Goderich Lions Tweens emerged with
a loss and a tie, in ringette play this week.
The Tweens lost 5-2 in Stratford on
November 16 and played to a 4-4 deadlock
against Stratford No. 3, at home on Sunday.
Kelly Lumley and Trisha Rumig each had
a goal and an assist in Friday's game. An-
nette Jones also assisted on a•goal.
On ..Sunday, Rumig scored twice, . while
Lumley and Shelly Alcock each added one.
Annette Jones earned three assists and
Karen Armstrong was the playrnaker on one
goal.
HOUSE LEAGUE
In Petite House League action, the Black
Stars defeated Green Machine 4-1, on
November 12.
Tara Haylow tallied a hat trick for the
Black Stars' and Julie Campbell scored
once, while Melissa Purser picked .up an
assist.
Stacey Clarence replied for the Green
Machine, assisted by Alesha Glousher.

The Goderich Figure Skating Club and the Goderich Minor Hockey
Association co-sponsored the fund-raising skate-a-thon, held here
on Saturday. Local youngsters collected pledges and many com-

BLYTH - The Blyth Bears continued their
climb to one of the top spots in the Blyth
Broomball League this past week, as they
remained in • fourth place but moved to
within one point of first. So far this year the
Bears have lost three games, however only
one of those defeats has come in regulation
time.
On November 13, the Bears took on the
undefeated Lucky Devils. The two teams
played to a scoreless draw in regulation
time, due mainly to the outstanding goalten-
ding displayed by the Bears Kevin
Falconer. In overtime, the Devils took a 1- 0
lead, as the league's top scorer Rodger For-
syth connected for the game winner, with
the assist going to John Beadle. An in-
surance goal by John Beadle from Mike
Schumacher, gave the Devils their 2 - 0 vic-
tory.
On November 15, the Bears got single
goals from Steve Cook, John Bird and Larry
Sowerby to post a 3 - 0 shutout. over the Clin-
ton Warriors. Gary Nicholson picked up two
assists for the Bears, while Terry Sowerby
added one.
In further action on Novem er 13, Randy
Boyer set up Richard Miller fo the game's
only goal, as the G rich Oarsmen slipped
past the Clinton arriors 1 - 0. Glenn
McLean posted th Oarsmen's first shutout
this year.
Yvonne Cronyn recorded her third shutout
this season as the Auburn ladies pulled off a
1 - 0 triumph over Brussels.
Lanesville Lords, led by Jim Van Osch's
two goals and one assist, knocked off the
Blyth Inn Bandits 5 - 0. Duke Drennan and
Steve Howard added a goal and an assist
each, while Ian Hackett added one goal, and
Greg Hackett and Shawn Drennan had one
assist each.
On November 15, Lori Hesselwood con-
nected for four goals to lead the Blyth BaLa-
toneers to a 6 - 0 victory over Yogi's Girls.
The 8th Liners grabbed a 2 - 0 first period
lead, however they needed a goal with 12
seconds left in the game, to defeat the
Lakelet Hornets 3 - 2. Herb Govier scored
two goals including the game winner for the
8th Liners, with Gordon Machan adding a
goal and an assist, and Arnold Pease two
assists. For the Hornets, Phil Black picked
up one goal and an assist, while Doug de
Boer had one goal and Ron de Boer an
assist.
Sheila Walker set up Jane Vath for the
game's only goal as Lucknow edged the
Goderich Harbourlites 1 - 0, Sheila Hunter's
sixth shutout this season.
Second period goals by Brian Argyle and
Roy Fisher, lifted the Auburn Falcons to a 2
- 0 win ever the Coder/eh Oarsmen.
