Jonathan Miller reopens his livery
80 YEARS AGO
His many friends and the public in general
will be glad to learn that Jonathan Miller,
the general Boniface and all around good
citizen, has reopened his livery on East
Street.
This time last year the skating rink was
doing a big business and there had been a
few days pretty fair sleighing. A great con-
trast to the November weather of 1904.
Mrs. Christopherson has sold her,
residence and vacant lot on Newgate Street
to Mr. Nott of the Crescent for the sum of
$1200.

W.G. McMillan has been elected worship-
ful master of Maitland Lodge no. 33, A.F.
and A.M. for the coming year.
Captain Bill Young, skipper of the Alarm,
LOOKING, BACK
took an involuntary bath in thecold waters
of the harbor this week. He stepped onto the
stringer along the dock to cast off a line for
one of the MacDonald boys and took a
header when his foot slipped . on the rain -
soaked wood. He swam to a rope and was
quickly hauled out.
25 YEARS AGO
Wgrk has commenced on the building of a
9,000 square feet addition to the main plant
of Dominion Road Machinery Company Ltd.
Goderich harbor was an active spot on
Sunday and many carloads of people lined
the docks to watch the activity. Of prime in-
terest was the loading of the first boat with
salt from the new rock salt mine. The Iro-
quois, a Canada Steamships Line boat,
came up from Detroit and took away a
cargo of 4,200 tons of rock salt to Montreal.
Remington's IGA Foodliner, 80 South
Street°, was officially opened today. Jim
Remington is manager of the new super-
market which is 53 feet by 100 feet.
5 YEARS AGO
Construction is progressing on the outdoor
salt 'storage area at the Domtar Sifto Mine
at Goderich harbor.
The Huron County Board of Education
and its elementary -school teachers may be
close to contract settlement despite negotia-
tions which, at best, have been slow.
Ordigtor and Effective People Manage-
ment, designed for the motivated volunteer
co-ordinator. Location for the seminar is
Fairview Centre, 515 Langs Dr. in Cam-
bridge.
Volunteer co-ordinators play many roles,
and these roles will form the basis of discus-
sion in this seminar. At one time or another,
a volunteer co-ordinator has to be: a seller,
dealing with recruiting strategies; an
educator, training and teaching volpnteers;
a manager, orgy ruing work functions; a
counsellor, establishing a support network;
and a troubleshooter, dealing with crises
and potential problems,. How to deal with all
these roles effectively will be the focus of
the practical seminar.
