Strathroy 9-2 in game
The Goderich Novice A's hammered
Strathroy 7-3, in a Shamrock league game,
played in Strathroy.
The teams traded goals in the early going,
and the score was knotted at 2-2, with less
than four minutes to go in period two.
Goderich struck for two goals in the last
minutes of the frame to come out up 4-2.

Ken McLarty had two goals, one assist for
Goderich; Bryan Hodges and Jason Meriam
each had a goal and two assists; David
Lumley and Jeff Volland had one goal, one
assist; Jeff Klages scored one goal; Craig
Corrivean had two assists and Lee William-
son, Jeremy Powell,and Taylor Clochini
each had one assist.
In successive out-of-town games last week
the Goderich Lions Pee Wees were badly
outplayed in losing efforts, of 7 - 4 to St.
Marys and 6 -1 to Strathroy.
Against St. Marys, Goderich scored in the
first 34 seconds, but after that, the same
team that the Lions handled easily three
nights before, outhustled them for the vic-
tory.
The locals trailed by scores of 2 - 1 after
one and 4 - 2 after two, but didn't have the
extra drive to overtake the opposition in the
third.
Andre Cauchi led the offence in this game
with two goals and one assist, with single
goals going to Chris O'Neill and Tim Har-
rison. Assists went to Jeff Hodges and Sean
O'Brien.
In Strathroy, the opposition broke open a
close 2 - 1 contest after 2 periods for their
win.
This game was a very close checking one,
with both teams having to contend with
heavy ice and fog.
Tim Harrison tallied the lone Lion goal,
with Brian Lane and Sean O'Brien assisting.
The Lions will try to get back on track this
weekend, with games in Goderich Saturday,
against Parkhill and back in Strathroy Sun-
day.
Recreation Board offers
hel with fundraising
to
the association in the near future, to
discuss the proposal.
SKATE-A-THON
In other business the board approved the
donation of 10 hours of free ice -time for the
annual skate -a -thou, which will be held
November 17, at the Goderich arena.
Board Chairman Jim McDade noted that
the board has always donated ice -time for
the event, which is sponsored by the Minor
Hockey Association, Figure Skating Club
and Ringette Association and' -is open to
any youngsters wishing to participate.
NEW FLOORING
Netzke noted that new rubberized Tuflex
flooring has been installed in two dressing
rooms at the arena. The roughly $5,000 cost
of the new flooring was paid for on a 50-50
basis, by the Goderich Industrial Hockey
League and the recreation department.
She reported that the department has
subsequently received a tenative offer
from another group, which is considering
donating the funds to put the new flooring
in either the other two dressing rooms or
the arena lobby.
The group, which Netzke declined to
name at this time, is considering paying
the entire cost of the project, approximate-
ly $5,000 for the two dressing rooms, or
about $10,000 for the lobby.
NEW CHAIRMAN
The Goderich Recreation Board gave
their approval, for a plan to help the
Goderich Minor Hockey Association raise
money to cover the oranization's operating
expenses, at the board's October 25
meeting.
In a special report to the board, Recrea-
tion retha-
tion Director Jane Netzke pointed
the association needs to raise about $14,000
to cover expenses for the 1984-85 season.
The association does not have a Ways
and Means chairman and association
president Charlie Boddy attended the
board's September meeting, to put forth a
request for free ice time for the first two
weeks of the season. Boddy also requested,
on behalf of the association, that the board
pay any shortfall in the minor hockey
operating expenses.
"I am concerned. about this idea and at-
titude, as I feel it will only cause hard feel-
ings and negative publicity between the.
Recreation Board and minor hockey,"
Netzke stated in her report.
The report stated that board member
Ron Klages had volunteered to act as co-
chairman of a fund-raising committee for
the association, if that organization would
also appoint a co-chairman.
After an in -camera -discussion of the pro-
posal the board passed the following mo-
tion "That the recreation director (Net Ron Klages was elected chairman of the
(Net-
zke) and the Agricultural Park sub- Agricultural Park sub -committee, replac-
ascfullyee chairman (Klages) the co operate ing the previous chairman Ron Bushell.

inalso trying to said he was too busy to continue as chair-
thatmeet their needs."The motion stated
Netzke and Klages should meet witl man.
