Years ago, the Rotary Club, I believe, had movies held at G.D.C.I. of different countries, they were very enjoyable. One saw movies that even if you had visited that country, their movie showed you such a great deal more, and you would feel much happier after seeing so much of the country. I know that I really enjoyed them. So, when I read the Seniors were showing movies of England, Scotland and Wales - I decided to go. There was a very good attendance and it was nice to see many folks I hadn't seen for some time. The program started with music and story telling - some very fine bits of poetry were very funny and set everyone at ease. You - can't beat a good laugh to warm an audience and I enjoyed the whole evening. The movies were made by some of our own town people. They were beautiful and quite professional. A lot of time, and money would have been used to produce the yards and yards of footage they had taken. ,`TKINSON Brad, Kim and C ,'Sal would like to thank, friends and relatives for gifts, flowers and hospital visits --44x • McKENZIE We wish to thank relatives and friends for all the - flowers, cards, and visits during my stay in -the hospital. Also to Reverend John Wood. Legion Branch 109, and the Ladies' Auxiliary and to Selinger Wood and staff. My sincere apprecia tion to all for everything. Jim Robertson. 44 I'm sure everyone enjoyed what we saw - I know 1 was happily surprised. Thank you. The evening was all too short - I'm sure all agreed. We have been to The Rockie 3 three times - but I can't say I have any good pictures of our trips. The first time 1 wanted to see Lake Louise, which is quite a distance from Banff - and when we arrived the sun was high over the mountain. The dark blue cold waters of Louise were just a white blurr - a big nothing, and we were very unhappy. Back to Banff again we decided to see the Sulphur Springs and that mountain. We DICKSON I would like to thank Dr. Parnell and Phyllis Scott in Emergency at the Goderich Hospital, the night of my seU,ident Thanks to friends and relatives for ca owers, fruit basket and visits while I was • •.tient in Victoria Hospital. London and since returning home. A special thanks to grand parents for bringing me home Kim 44 with Martha Rathbuurn found they hau a ti actor witu plauns on both sides on which you stood with metal pipe to hang on to and you were taken up the moun- tain to the 5,000 ft. level where you could see the whole Bow River Valley - and all the high Mountains - well a heck of a lot of them! Then you could ride back down to the base again. so thrilled at the sight before us, the other people on the conveyance (such as it was, that on every cut-back would swing out wide over the edge of nowhere and scare me to pieces) talked us in to walking the rest of the way to the top. The best cup of tea in the world on top of Sulpher Mountain and the most unforgettable view of your life" - 'cinched it and we started walking. The three people quickly left us tenderfoots, behind and from above us would say, "Hurry up, slowpokes." The second time this happened with them laughing above us, seemed only fifteen or twenty feet. I rebelled, and said why should we walk all the way back and forth when we can climb from this level to that above us - easily? Well! that ,was a tenderfoot talking all right! My husband managed to reach the higher path but he had to reach down to help the tenderfoot up the last few feet! We walked the rest of the way - back and forth - back and forth - up the side of the mountain. When are reached the top there was a very small log cabin. Beside the door was a shelf, on which a large visitors book lay - and I glanced up and down the -pages of high praise - and flattery - and couldn't think of anything to say but, "We were pooped!" Then we went inside to the very primitive small room, where we paid 50 cent for a small glass of water and over a, dollar for a cup of tea. It was the Best, all right. Over the years this cabin has gone and the mountaintop has been changed. There is a picnic grouilids there now, reached by a gondola from the foot of the mountain. The next time we visited this place the couple *ith us and Walt wouldn't go up - so I headed for the, gondola - but then Tommy came and said I shouldn't go alone. He was glad later that he had taken that beautiful, thrilling ride to the top with me. ' Another time we went to see friends in Edmonton and when we went on to Lake Louise later - there it was just as advertised, the most beautiful sight ever, with the ice field on the mountains melting into the deep, deep, dark blue icy cold waters of Lake Louise. I have seen the mountains, the whole range - almost, since those trips, in the movies and you could never have reached them by car. Most of the movies were taken from an aircraft and they were fantastic. One time we went on into the States from Calgary - followed the mountain roads right down to Reno. By that time, I thought it might be a good idea to get a divorce while ,we were there as we might need it later! I nearly got crowned! That too was a memorable trip. We had our first -land only - flat tire in the area of the "Craters of the Moon" - 58,000 acres of cinders and clinkers, crazy. formations of caves too, but not a blade of grass a bird or a bee! Sterile! That would have been something to see on movie reel. But only the hardy and the brave manage to take movies of their trips and bless them, I think they are wonderful. Love you all - Martha. Marie Flynn and her orchestra livened things up as they played arrangements of many old and new tunes. This group is a popular one, and always received with enthusiasm at Huron - view. Oct. 23 was a special day as residents and some staff members enjoyed a meal of Dix- ie Lee chicken. There was plenty of food in- cluding interesting salads and ice cream. Thanks goes to all the people involved in this special treat. After the meal, entertainment was provid- ed by a talented group from Goderich known as the Fog Horns. Since this is the year of Ontario's Bicentennial, it was fitting, that the cast members of this production looked back into the history of Huron County, and remembered people and events that made the county what it is today. In so doing, they came up with a beautiful idea and some very interesting facts that were set to music and song. To give an example, was the story told of Colonel Anthony VanEgmond, who was commissioned to build the Huror•Road. He built not only the road, but also three taverns, fell in love with the area, and mov- ed to Seaforth. His men had much clearing to do, and they soon learned the lumbermen's songs, one of which was Little Brown Jug. Each member of the cast played a musical instrument and told an incident of the pioneers as they settled here, and sang a song relating to that time. If you haven't heard the Fog Horns, you. have missed an excellent show. Members of the cast were Bonnie Dunn leader, George Griffins, Ralph Henderson, Shirley McMillan, Cai<oly, Myers, Joan Henwood, Couple shows slides of trip abroad to seniors. A large audience attended the variety con-, cert at MacKay Centre on Oct. 24th. Jean Schram and Irene Todd were in charge of the programme which' opened with O'Canada played by Audrey Kerr. Jean and Irene always have some good stories and readings when they are responsible for a programme. Duringthe evening Audrey Kerr played several familiar selections on the piano. Helen Westbrook gave a reading "I'm all mixed up in the head!" and later sang two beautiful solos "Is your burden heavy" and "When you come to the end of the day!" Gord Harrison and Francis Schram played the style of music they play for the Friday night dances at MacKay Centre and later in the programme were joined by Bill and Ebb Ross on mouth organs. The au- dience joined in by clapping their hands keeping time to the mucic. Everett and Beatriet Sparling showed slides of their recent trip to England, Wales and Scotland.
