Convention
held in Goderich
Bahai'is from, Tobermory to Windsor and
inland to Stratford gathered in Goderich on
the weekend to consult on the relationship of
the teachings of Baha'u'llah to the needs of
the world today.
The Baha'i writings state that unity of the
human race must be accomplished before
peace is realized. Whether suffering.is war,
child abuse, violation of human dignity,
loneliness or any other human malady af-
fecting mankind, it is based on prejudice,
greed and apathy.
The world is on the verge of peace but it is
not an automatic condition but one that re-
quires the desire to ,change. One heart at a
time, if necessary.
This theme as the basis of consultation
was greatly heightened by the involvement
of youth and children. They believe they can
move the world not with words but with ser-
vice, increased knowledge, prayer and com-
mittment.
Participants in the regional convention
enjoyed a social evening Saturday and voted
Tom Flynn, and Jeannie Seddon of
Goderich Township and Winnifred Norton of
Windsor as delegates to the national conven-
tion.

"The Role of Women In the Church" was
the theme when the Evening Unit of North
Street United Church met in October.
Phyllis McTaggart and her group were -in
charge.
Edna Looker opened the meeting and the
members joined in the singing of "Come Ye
Thankful People Come"
The topic was well presented by several
members of the group, relating to the many
different roles of women in the church, in
the past and at the present time.
The offering was received by Bessie
Moore and Jean Bannerman. Ila Crozier led
in the Offertory Prayer.
A special feature of the evening was a
slide presentation by Helen and Donald
Gard. The Gards had been in Tanzania,
Africa from 1976 to 1978, under the C.U.S.O.
plan. They showed us many beautiful slides
accompanied by very interesting and
enlightening commentary.
A short business period was conducted by
Lois McGill.
On Dec. 5 our three U.C.W. units will meet
for a potluck supper and Christmas pro-
gram. The meeting closed with the benedic-
tion and a social time was enjoyed.
Our November meeting will be held at
Maitland Manor. Ruth Walker and her
group will be in charge.
