Defensively, Richard Boddy had a fumble recovery and Mike Bush had a pass in- terception and 20 yard return. With 2113 and 14 -year-olds, the Vikings do have a lot of learning to do but coaches Gar - row and Baker feel they are on track. The real test begins Wednesday, September 26 when the Vikings begin their Huron -Perth schedule against their old rivals, the South Huron Panthers, ip Exeter. That game, followed by a trip to Listowel on October 1 and the Vikings first home start on Thursday, October 4 against the Stratford Northwestern Huskies will tell the tale. BY TD The GDCI junior Vikings defeated the Sar- nia St. Clair Colts 33-12 in exhibition football Friday in Sarnia. The Vikings, who are in what coaches Bill Garrow and Bruce Baker describe as "a rebuilding year", had little trouble chalking up the victory in their first outing of the season. Goderich led 20-6 at the half on the strength of two touchdowns by Kevin Telford and one by Colin Shand plus a two- point conversion by Mark Burbine. Telford's majors came on runs of eight yards and 48 yards while Shand went in from the 17 -yard -line on an end -around play. The Colts had thrown a bit of a scare into Sr. Vikings blank Colts BY TD The GDCI Senior Vikings shutout the St. Clair Colts in exhibition football, played in Sarnia, Friday, by -a score of 35-0. The game was decided early, as the Vik- ings scored three touchdowns in the opening quarter. Dave Ahnasi took a 10 -yard pass from quarterback John Thompson, for the first touchdown. Shawn Rahbek got the second major on a 10 -yard dive and Lee Frisby ran the ball in from the five -yard line for the other TD. The only other scoring of the first half came on a fumble recovery by Shawn Doherty, in the Sarnia Endzone, following a second-quarter fumble by Sarnia, on a Vik- ing kickoff. John Thompson went five yards on a quarterback sweep, in the third quarter, for the final Viking TD. Thompson also kicked a single and Joe Melady, kicked four converts `for the Vikings. Coach Ray Donnelly and Chris Connor were pleased with their team's showing. The defense was strong against both the sun and the pass. The offense functioned ef- fectively, but Donnelly saw a need for im- provement in the Vikings' passing game. The Vikings will continue to work on im- proving their timing and technique through this week, when they have a break in their schedule. Their first league action is set for next Wednesday, in Exeter, against the South - Huron Panthers.
