Five new teachers welcomed to school by students

The Brookside students would like to
welcome new teachers, Beth Garland,
teaching Kindergarten, Class 1; Judy Jewitt
teaching Grade 2; Lois Ottewell teaching
Grades 2-3; Al Sygrove teaching Special
;.earning Needs Class;, Rudie Hooftman
teaching French Grades 3-8 and En-
vironmental Studies in Grade 5. Miss Jewitt
is already familiar with Brookside as she
taught Grade 1 last spring while Mrs. Young
was on maternity leave.
Pat Allen and Lois Tebbutt took the Prin-
cipal's Course at Huron College, London
during the summer.
Mary Bere took two courses at Western
University in the summer to finish the fif-
teen courses needed for a B.A. She
graduates at the fall convocation at Univer-
sity of Western Ontario at the end of Oc-
tober.
Several Brookside pupils won prizes in the
Historical Models Contest sponsored by the
Huron County Historical Society at the
Dungannon Fair. The winners were Danny
Kerr. Christina Todd. Lillian MacAulay,
-Lisa Cairncross, Janice Webster, Keith
King and Jamie Chisholm.
Mrs. Tebbutt's Grade 4 class has 25 pupils
attending this year. They are making a
booklet called, Introducing Me.
Mrs. Graham is teaching her class how to
mix colours. They helped to decorate the
float for Luckrlow Fair.
Soccer teams are being organized for both
seniors and juniors. Intermural soccer has
already started for students on the senior
wing.
A 50 Km. Club is being started for
everybody with prizes awarded for those
who complete 50 kilometres. Three laps
around the track equals one kilometre.
Pupils in Mrs. Allen's Grade 5 in Room 10
are doing a Pioneer Unit and planning a trip
to the museum in Goderich to study Pioneer
farming implements. Grade 5 welcomes
Eugene Scott who transferred from Col-
borne School.
Kindergarten classes are learning a dif-
ferent colour each day. At the painting and
pasting centres they use the colour of the
day, even the paste being coloured. They
have made brown hears, orange things,

Mrs. Blake held a book sale of used books
and magazines in the library on Thursday.
All the books set out for the sale were sold.
Mrs. Blake is thinking of putting the pro-
ceeds of the sale toward the purchase of a
new dictionary for the school.

Steering committee named
The Catholic high school steering corn-
mittee has been named by the Huron -
Perth Separate School Board.
Seamus Doherty of Clinton and Ron Cork
of Stratford were named as parent
representatives on the steering committee
at the board's September 10 meeting.
'The steering committee is expected to
establish a plan that will help the board
decide how hest to provide a Catholic high
school in the area.
The two men named were elected by
trustees from a list of four names from

Trustee Louis Maloney of Dublin sug-
gested the names be recorded and if addi-
tional help is required, the other people
could help.
Father Jim Carrigan of Dublin has been
named as the Huron -Perth Deanery's
representative on the committee.
Trustees Dave Durand of R.R. 2 Zurich
and John Devlin of Stratford will represent
the trustees. Chairman Ron Murray will
also sit on the committee.
