Man. on the.Line,.. allowing the flame .of
success to prospqr.
For the Brat ,• time in. his career, Chris de

This quote accurately describes de Burgh. nia, Exeter and Strathroy and the HCP box office.
Always his music has dealt with intangibles
( which he, as shown, finds exciting) .
De Burgh, dressed in tux on the album
cover, resembles a cocky fellow who loves to
tease. Contrary to this image, is de Burgh's
exceptional talent for characterization, his
songs are often poignant in the manner in
which they are laid out. Every track is a tale
in its own right. Take, for example, The
Sound of a Gun, which deals with violence
and our acceptance of it: "Hush child - go to
sleep - it's only the sound of a gun."
Man on the Line has great possibilities.
Taking it to° the Top and the title track both
have hit potential, not forgetting that The
Ecstasy of Flight can make a run for Top 40.
Then there is the name dropping game
involved with Man, on the Line are John
Giblen, Howard Jones, Rupert Hine and
Tina Turner.
By far a progression from The Getaway,
Man on the Line is a beautiful blend'of
bouncy tunes and .thoughtful melodies. An
uplifting album. Indeed, climbing to No.. 9 on
the Music, Express chart this month, it
proved de .Burgh is, takin' it to the top with
all the heat a. budding flame possesses.
