4 ,the free grandstand on Saturday,
'September 15. -
Five of this area's most -popular groups
will, be on hand to treat fairgoers to country
music from bluegrass to western swing,
down-home to city -slick. This marks the
;fourth consecutive year for the `Best of
'Country Roads" to be showcased at the
Western Fair.
This year the talent lineup includes Terry
'Sumsion and Stagecoach, winner of the BX-
' 93 Country Roads Series in 1981 and now a
headliner . in his own right, and this years
winners, Jamie Warren from Kitchener and
.Brantford's Stoker Brothers. ,Rare Breed
Country, a 194 winner and Prairie Wiling,, co,
winner of the 1982 contest will round out the
show.
Terry Sumsion's`.latest release'"Midnight
Invitation" is currently riding the national
,charts. His first album, f `Qwr Lovin' Place"
scored on the local listings for 30 weeks last
year, selling well across Canada. .
Terry's laid-back fusion 'of country and
bluegrass is. immediately recognizable, and
has won countless fans to his clean 'n' easy
style of performing. A new album is
scheduled to be released this fall.
Jamie Warren is no stranger to the,
Western Fair grandstand. fwoorears ago

Southwestern Ontario Youth Talent Search
on that very stage and went on to place se -

One will be chosen on Sept. 8 at the
.Howi k Community Centre at the dairy
r ess ball sponsored by the Huron Coun-
,tMilk Producers. The contestants include
the following:
Anita Hamming is the 18 -year-old'
daughter of Kornelis and Grace Hamming
of R.R. 1, Auburn. Born and raised on a
' dairy farm, Anita is starting her first year
in architectural technology at Humber Col-
lege. She is a graduate of Goderich District
Collegiate Institute and considers herself a
sports nut. She enjoys skiing, snowshoeing
and drawing.
Michele McMahon, 18, is entering Grade
13 at Listowel District Secondary School.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James
McMahon and enjoys reading, crafts, cook-
ing and babysitting. She has'completed 15 4-
H homemaking clubs.
Denise Nethery the 17 -year-old daughter
of Alex and Jean Nethery is starting Grade
12 at F.E. Madill Secondary • School in
Wingham. She enjoys baseball, broomball,
• piano, 4-H homemaking and babysitting.
She is in her church choir and is a volunteer
at the Wingham Day Care Centre. She
resides at R.R. 4,, Brussels.
Brenda MacDonald is the 22 -year-old
daughter of Len and Sheila MacDonald of
London. She is currently employed as a milk
maid on the farm of Jim Hunter's at R.R. 1,
Belgrave. She doesn't have much time for
hobbies now, but she does enjoy ringette and
baseball.
Pauline Webster, a Grade 11 student at
Central Huron Secondary School, is the 16 -
year -old daughter of Ruth and David
Webster of R.R. 2, Blyth. Pauline plays
piano at the Grade 8 level and enjoys 4-H
homemaking, baseball and broomball.
Shirley Dorsch, a graduate of F.E. Madill

sewing, cooking, basketball and cross coun-
try running.
Laurie Schneider is the 17 -year-old
daughter of Leon and Jean Schneider of
R.R. 1, Fordwich. A graduate of Listowel
District Secondary School, Laurie is taking
the executive secretary program at Con-
estoga College in Kitchener. She enjoys
playing the piano, baseball, crafts and 4-H
homemaking.

lead guitarist Dave Vigilanti ., Stew

keyboards and Madonna Tassi on harmony
vocals) is a hand-pickedt group of solo-,
calibre Musicians who form a perfect Corn
plement to Jarnie's dynamic "uptown coun-
try" style.
Jamie's .latest single "We Care About
Us"/"A Matter of Time" stayed on the na-
tional country charts for 10 weeks this sum-
mer and his next release will be hitting the
airwaves in October.
The Stoker Brothers are a four -piece band
who have been performing at clubs and con-
certs throughout the area for a .nlgnber of
years. Their lively, high energy presenta-

them a loyal following of dedicated fans.
Their current single recording, "Hey, Coun-
try Singer" is enjoying regular iiirplay on
radio stations across the country.
Brothers D.J. and Mickey Stoker have
been performing since they were in their
mid -teens. As youngsters they sang in the
Family Band with their mother, Ila. D.J.
plays keyboards, rhythm guitar, harmonica
and synthesizer, while Mickey plays lead
guitar as well as the fiddle and banjo.
The other two members of the group are
Paul Kneller on bass and Rick Colwell on
drums. '
. Rare Breed Country is from the Windsor
area. The four -member band is guided by
Marion Starr and her husband Brian Moon.
Marion takes care of lead vocals and per-
cussion, while Brian plays bass.
The pair started their musical careers
-early in life. Marion made her singing debut
`when she was just three -years -old, and
Brian won his first talent contest at the age
of six. Instrumentally, Brian modestly ad-
mits that he plays "any instrument except
the saxophone".
Prairie Wing is a London-based 'band
whose enthusiasm • for' "pure country"
guarantees the audience a good time.
Comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Nora
Galloway, lead guitarist Stan Smith, Ron
Delavigne on bass, fiddle player Peter
Robertson and drummer Rod Perkins, they,
recently celebrated their fifth birthday with
an open-air concert in -Victoria Park.
Prairie Wing has two singles to their
credit - "God Damn Hippies"/"At Least Un-
til' Today" and "Don't Cry Blue"/"The
Hawk is Flying" (a tribute .to Ronnie
Hawkins). A third single is due out this fall.
The "Best of Country Roads" showcase
concert will have hands a -clapping and toes
a -tapping at the free grandstand, Western
Fair, on Saturday, September 15 at 4 p.m.
