We don't respond to suit and tie.
Dear Editor:
What a surprise last week after
completing the midnight shift and coming
above from under ground where Domtar
sees fit to pay me for impersonating a
miner to find one of our local politicians
introducing himself and shaking hands
with the boys.. This is a splendid tactic and
guarantees a flock more votes. However,
when the candidate is wearing a three-
piece suit, his hair and nails polished like a
mallard duck caught in an oil slick and
plastic shoes, he belongs op a stage, not by
our time clock. Furthermore, there is no
need to try and seduce us by wearing a tie.
This is bad for our image."Shame on you
Mr. Politician. Next time you would. be
better off if you wore safety boots, greasy
or faded blue jeans and a mackinaw shirt.
But you tried. Just don't forget. We are the

OPINION
riter misinformed
about pool situation
Dear Editor,
This letter is in response to "the pool not
being opened on Sunday". First of all, we
would like to say that people should get all of
their information straight before writing a
complaint. Secondly, the wading pool is a
free privilege which many people take ad-
vantage of.
The gate to the wading pool was not "left
open by accident". The lock was picked by
one of the swimmers that we, as lifeguards,
babysit on a regular basis. Furthermore,
when the big pool was closed and there were
no lifeguards around, the parents should
have had the common sense to tell their
children that they . were not allowed in the
pool-
Fortunately, a concerned parent phoned
one of our supervisors (on her day off) and
told her what was happening. She rushed
over to the pool to find about 15 children
swimming, shingles and stones from the

roof scattered about the pool and one child 1
riding his bicycle in the pool. The majority' P.
of the children found in, the pool were
regular pool goers between the ages of three
and twelve and are quite aware "of the pool
rules. Do you not agree then that the
children should have been "given heck" for
what was not "the parks mistake?"
The reason for the pool being closed was
due to the Pro -Am Bicycle Race which we
worked ai withoui pay. Since we cannot -be
in two places at once, the pool was closed.
Fortunately, for everyone involved, no ac-
cidents occurred this time!

Flags stolen fourth
line reader says
others .,Gere paid by my husband's pension
check. There will be no more flags flying in
our backyard and I'm sure it will be missed
not only by us but by our neighbours.
To the people who stole our flags, I hope
'you're satisfied. You've gotten your way;
there will be no more flags around our
home. I hope you have a great need for our
flags. It's outrageous that you cannot be a
proud Canadian in this town. It would be
very much appreciated if our flags were
returned with a new pole.
I hope this letter will make people realize
what we, in our home, feel. If our flags have
been stolen four times, what next, our home,
burglarized. I'm beginning to believe that
our little town of Goderich is no longer safe.
Sincerely, •
Mrs. Elgin Chambers
DeaiEditor:
Somewhere in this town are parents who .
don't give a damn what their teenage
children do after eleven o'clock at night.
Friday night we lost our fourth Canadian
flag since the first of May. The pole has
twice been broken off at the base and our
flags stolen. Two of these stolen flags have
my name upon them and one has myius-
band's. If the parents of these thieves ever
entered their child's room and found our
flags, I'm sure they would be shocked.
We have lost approximately one hundred
and fifty dollars and the police have been
notified. Unfortunately, they don't seem to
be doing anything about it. The first flag and
pole was a gift from a friend of mine and
therefore has great sentimental value. The
