Fred Sadler was leading driver
Despite the threat of bad weather the
harness races held Thursday, July 5 at the
Goderich Raceway' went almost without
fault. In fact, it was not rain which upset the
evening, but two minor accidents which in-
volved Goderich horses.
Fred Sadler shone as the leading driver
Thursday, posting three wins and one se-
cond in his six drives of the evening.
In the fourth race Sadler drove his own
horse Dwye to a second place finish.
Faithful Missy driven by Clarence Young
won the race in 2:06.2. It was not until later
in the evening that Sadler really began to
show his ability. In the eighth race Sadler
steered the two year old (maiden) Rosys
Dilly, owned by Wayne Horner Stables, to
vicory in a quick 2:07. Sadler continued his
winning streak in the ninth and feature race,
as he guided the favorite, Garmor Natalie to
victory.
The ninth race was a disappointment for
some as Handy Slipper, owned by Grant and
• Carl Fisher of Goderich, went down before
the race and resulted in the horse being
scratched. In the same race Thomas
Whitney, driven by Keith Coates, who .had
placed second to Garmor Natalie the
previous week, made a break leaving and
was out of contention in the race.
Despite the troubles plaguing the ninth
race Garmor Natalie paced a quick mile in
2:05 posting her second win in two starts at
the Goderich Raceway.
With two wins in a row under his belt,
Sadler was again in the race bike in the
tenth race. He steered his own horse Sassy
Dakali th .victory in 2:10, defeating Billy
Skipper owned by Bert McBride of
Goderich.
Thursday also proved to be a very suc-
cessful night flu four Goderich owned
horses. Noble Amy, who is owned by Koop
DeGroot and trained by Goyd Kerr, was
driven by Ross Battin to her second victory
in two starts. Noble Amy won the second
race in a time of 2:08.3.
In the third race Kim Mathers, owned .by
Broken M Stables and driven by Ray
Mathers won her third lifetime start. In the
same race, Kushinda trained by Gord Kerr,
was a late vet scratchf as it went down
behind the starting gate and was unable to
race.
The sixth race saw the win of another
Goderich horse, Rustic Helene was driven
by Randy Henry. They proved to. be too
tough to catch out of post position two and
won the race in 2:05.3. Bert McBride's horse
. Peter Wave was second in the same race.
In the seventh race Garmor Enuff owned
by Thomas McLean and trained and driven
by Randy McLean won its third in a row at
Goderich. Garmor Enuff was easily the
crowd favorite. McLean . drove Garmor
Enuff to a win in 2:08.2, defeating Prince
Bye Bye driven by Brad Vanstone.
On the whole, July 5 was a fairly suc-
cessful
uscessful night for Goderich Raceway. The at-
tendance and handle are slowly coming up
to average. There will be 10 harness races
Thursday, July 19. Ten blankets have been
donated to the Raceway by local merchants,
and each winning horse will be presented
with one.
The ninth and feature race of the evening
promises to be very competitive with
regulars Joellas Knight, Thomas Whitney
and Setons Choice mixed in with the
newcomers Dela Dawn, Peter Wave, Syr-
inga and Penns Smart Kid. With the two
time winner Garmor Natalie out of the
class, it leaves the field wide open for a
favorite - so come on out and join the action.
Post time is at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, July 12.
There will be some interesting races
