Nor- ton, last week announced the allocation of $47,387 for Home Support Ser- vices to the Elderly in Huron County for 1980-81. "This is in keeping with my Ministry's continuing commitment to improve services for . senior citizens throughoutthe province," the Minister said. The program results from the conviction that senior citizens should be provided with the support services they require to enable them to continue living in their own homes, and that seniors should have the opportunity to participate as fully as possible in the life of the Community. The Huron Day Centre for the Homebound in Clinton will -receive a grant of up to $29,100 for 1980-81 to assist it in continuing to provide a day program for elderly persons. The program operates from Huronview. Home for the Aged and serves residents in the southern part of Huron County. The Wingham and Area Day Centre for the Homebound will receive up, to $7,578. This grant will help meet the costs incurred by this service in 1979-80. With services similar to Clinton's, this centre assists elderly residents in the northerly part of Huron County. It is located in the newly renovated Wingham Armouries. The Ministry's grant will assist in providing staff, transportation assistance and materials for these programs. Under the Ministry's Home Support Program, social service agencies and citizens groups are eligible to receive up to one-half 'of their program's approved budget. The remaining costs must be met by voluntary donations, user fees or municipal grants. As well as supporting existingprograms, the allocations will help develop new community- based services. The Ministry policy strongly favours involvement of volunteers to help provide services, whenever appropriate. These funds are part of the Ministry's total budget of $3,034,800 this fiscal.. year for Home Support • Service. This represents an increase of. $2 million in this fiscal year, in the government's commitment to Home Support Service.
