New market
open June 7
at grandstand
BY JOANNE
BUCHANAN
A farmers' market will
be the newest feature in
Goderich this summer.
Operated by the Goderich
Recreation 'Department,
the market will ' offer
home baking, crafts,
plants and produce such
as eggs, meat, cheese,
fruit and fish.
Jane Netzke of the
recreation department
says the market Will be
similar to the • one
operated in Kitchener -
Waterloo and depending
on its popularity, it may
be set up every summer.
Although the proper
amount of space and
storage containers for
products may be lacking,
she says the sellers can
put just a few items on
display and take orders.
The market will be se,t
up downstairs at the Ron
Feagan Memorial
Grandstand on
MacDonald Street
beginning June 7 and will
continue until the end of
August. Hours are from 9
a.m. to noon.
Anyone can rent space
at the market. A ten foot
•by ten foot square area
will rent for $5 per week
and the renter must
provide his own table and
chairs. Reservations for
space should be made
wen in advance each
week through the
recreation office.
Jane is hoping that
service clubs and grtups
like the Boy Scouts ana
Girl Guides will perhaps
rent space for a week or
two at the market to sell
products and make some
money for themselves.
If there are any
inquiries regarding the
market, contact Jane at
the recreation d•epart-
ment at 524-2125.

cefit program starting for
women this fall.
New series
for mothers
La Leche League
started a new series at
the home of Mrs. Stuart
in•Wingham on May 20 at
8 p.m: The topic of
discussion was "The
Advantages of Breast-
feeding to Mother and
Baby."
Mrs. ,Stuart welcomed
the mothers to her home.
Then the mothers in-
troduced themselves and
described their Mother's
Day. Gifts from husbands
and breakfast in bed were
much appreciated on this
special day.
Mrs. Barbara Kerr,
leader," -talked about the
beginnings of LLL with a
group of seven mothers
getting together to
discuss breastfeeding.
There are now about
12,000 leaders in 44
countries so the help)and
encouragement of LLL to
nursing mothers has
really been a success in
the last 24 years.
The Mothers discussed
various topics of interest
such as bonding,
breastnitilk, and attitudes
towards nursing. It was
noted that a mother who
' wants to nurse her baby
can, and the special
relationship during
br'eastfeeding was so
beneficial .to mother and
baby.
This weekend four
League members will be
attending an Area
Conference in Dundas to
learn more about aspects
of birthing, nursing; and
child -raising. . The
mothers were notified of
a special program on TV
about La Leche League,
which will be shown on
Channel 8 at 2:30 p.m.
