Pentecostals meet for rally
The Women's
Ministries of the
Goderich section of the
Pentecostal Assemblies
of Canada met for their
annual rally on April 12 at
Bethel Assembly. Women
gathered from the
various groups
represented 10 of the 12
churches in the section.
Their theme for 1980 is
"Reach Up tg God for
Growth then Out for
souls." • .
The morning began at
9:30 a.m. with.
registration, coffee and
fellowship. At 10 a.m. the
first session commenced
with a devotional period
conducted by the section
leader and host pastor's
wife, Barbara Day.
Testimonies of God's
provision add answer to
prayer were ' given by
Yvonne Reynolds of
Exeter and " Gladys
Hutchins of Goderich.
Guest speaker in both
'the morning and af7
ternoon was Mrs. Betty
Faulkiner, return
missionary - from
Thailand. She spoke from
2 Corinthians 5:17 on
being a new creature in
Christ :.. in our prayer
life, reading of God's
word, our love for others
and our mission to spread
the Gospel of Christ. Her
afternoon message was
concerning the "Will of
God".

"And sitting down, they
watched Him there.
(Matt. 27:36)
One wonders what was
in the minds of those who
--7wa'tcired tate cross. J'esus'
disciples, of course, were
not there. They were
willing to fight for Him
but to surrender • was
another thing. 'Had they
prayed in Gethsemane,
they . might have reacted
differently, but having
failed -there, they failed
again when the test
came. Only .. John
returned and stayed near
the women.
The women were there

The soldiers whiled
away the time gambling.
They were required to
stay until -it was over.
But the centurion, as he

way Jesus endured the
cross, despising the
shade. An aura of the
heavenlies was upon
Him. As he had prayed in
Gethsemane, an angel
came and strengthened
Him -- surely 'not a
physical strengthening,
because he fell under the
weight of the cross, but a
spiritual strength
enabling Him to, instead
of "writhing in anguish
and pain", show forth

Rome had
God's glory in quiet
majesty.
Not everyone saw this.
The people who passed
by didn't •because they
railed' on Him. •

not.
Joseph of Arimathaea
and Nicodemus quite
possibly were there but
we are not told of their
reaction. ° They were
waiting to claim the body
of Jesus.
But the centurion -saw
and believed. "Surely
this man was the son of
God."
In death as in life,
Jesus showed God's
glory, as always, full of
grace and truth. This
glory evidently lasted
until just before his death
when he felt forsaken of
God, but manifested itself
again in the resurrection.
The benedictions in the
Bible are beautiful. We

from the dead our Lord

His will, working in you
that which is well -
pleasing in his sight
through Jesus Christ to
whom be glory forever
and ever. Amen..

the lunch hour (ac-
companied by Mrs.

afternoon session Mrs.
Faulkiner interviewed
the Racksasouks, con-
versing with them in their
Laotian dialect. It was
interesting to note. that
they had received a Bible
while in a refugee camp
and also learned 41bout
the „Gospel for, the first
time. Mr. Racksasouk
said' he was thankful to
God to be in Canada and
for his new life. Other
refugees from Walkerton
and Exeter were present
and were able to converse
with the missionary to
relate some messages to
their sponsors. It was a
thrilling moment for
them to hear their native
tongue . spoken in..
Goderich. One of thee'`..
refugees remarked that it.
was just like talking to
one of their own Thai'

Ball was speaker for the
meeting and chose the
theme, " After Easter -
What Then?" He read
from the New English
translation of the last
chapter of St. Luke's
gospel which told of
events after the
Resurrection.
Mr. Ball related in:
teresting stories of ex-
p.eri.ences whi-ch had --
affected his life. From his
work with people, he has
learned that one cannot
assume responsibility for
someone else's actions.
He has also learned that
what we think is the best
thing for others. may _n t.
be true. We should be
more- concerned and try
to find out what they
really do need.
We can learn more
about faith from the great
faith shown in the lives of
others_thanwe-- can ..from
reading books. A great
theologian who had
written many large
volumes was asked to
describe his faith in one
sentence. His reply was,
"Jesus loves me, this I
know for the Bible tells
me so." We are all
children in faith and must
continue to grow in faith
and be more loving and
caring people. • .
Mrs. Christine Hoff-
meyer graciously
thanked Mr. Ball and the
Craigellen Singers for
their help in making this
a very special meeting.
Mrs. Olive Knisley,
president, thanked all
those who had helped to
arrange the program and
the lunch committee. She
reported that the Easter
thank -offering will be
given to the Reverend
Bruce Eton, Sebringville.
Mr. Eton will relinquish
his pastoral charge in
June to go to Africa on a
well -drilling mission.
Mrs. Bea- S-parling
closed the meeting with
prayer. A social hour was
enjoyed by all when
delicious desserts, tea
and coffee were served
by members of the Clare
McGowan unit.
A beautiful quilt made
by members of the af-
ternoon unit was on
display. This quilt is in
the Lover's Knot pattern
and is for sale.
