Legion . Branch 109 and
their guests assembled in
the Jubilee Room of.the
Legion Hall on Saturday,
April 12 to commemorate
the 63rd anniversary of
the Battle of Vimy Ridge..
This year 22 veterans of
World War 1, including
six who served at Vimy,
were present as honored
guests of Branch 109. -
Vimy veterans present
were Dick Cornish,

MacDonald, Jack
McLaren and Jim Vittie.
World War I veterans

Royal Canadian Navy on
torpedos and gunboats
and has held: various
'Legion offices at Branch,
Zone and District levels.
In 1969 he serried as
President of - Ontario
Provincial Command and
in 1976 was elected
Dominion President at
the convention in Win-
nipeg. • ,
In 'a- brief but in-
formative address,
Comrade MacDonald
stated that The Battle of
.Vimy Ridge marked the
first time that an all
Canadian force had gone
into action. Today, we
recognize. .their valour
and success at Vimy as
the initial step in the
achievement of Canadian
Nationhood. The guest
speaker reminded his
audience of the fact that
the men who returned
from World War I
became the nucleus of the
great organization that
we enjoy today, namely
The Royal Canadian
Legion.
• The Legibn has taken a
pledge to support
Canadian Unity which
means no' preferential
treatment for any part of
Canada'. We recognize
that a-irdiTadians, we are
all equal, and the'Legion
will continue to work to
this end.
The guest speaker
stated that as this year is
the 35th anniversary of
The Liberation of
Holland, the Dutch
Government will
distribute tulip bulbs to
3600 Canadian Veterans
Who served in Holland
during World War II.

Comrade MacDonald
outlined the opposition of
the Legion to the
relocation of The
Canadian Pension
Commission and, in his
final remarks, referred to
the increasing role that
the Associate Members
will have to play in the
Legion Branch if the
Legion is to continue to he
a significant organization
within the community.
Comrade MacDonald
also presented Life
Membership cards and
pins to Comrades George

Forty-four members of
Goderich Legion Branch
109 were present at the
general meeting of the
branch which was held in
the Jubilee Room on
Tuesday, April 1. Branch
president Roy Mugford
presided, at this meeting.
President Mugford
welcomed the • Zone
Conder, Corifeade
William Riehl, who was
making his • official an-
nual visit to the branch.
The zone commander
answered • several
questions on procedure
within the Legion and
presented Comrade Bob
Chapman, the preient
Deputy Zone Com-
mander, with a badge for
his past services as zone
secretary of Zone C-1.
The report of the
executive included the
acceptance of six new
members into the branch,
namely, Den Jackson,
Steve Hall, Bev Wallace
Allan Fisher and Percy
Boak as associate
members.
Kinsmen President,
Dave , Cloet, was invited
to outline the new format
of the Interclub Dinner to
- be held on May 3.
The Property Chair-
man reported that five
electronic smoke filters
were -now installed in the
branch.
Comrade Ray Barker,
the Sick and Welfare
Chaii-man; reported that
25 members had received
a card or visit in the past
month. As of April 1, 21
members were in
