In these modern days of
lightning fast corn-
munication and tran-
sportation, people tend to
forget one of the oldest
and most necessary
means of travel. Water. •
The Port of Goderich is
dependent upon. the lake
and the network of
shipping companies that
use it. Lest the people of
Goderich forget this, the
last Sunday in February_
since 1903 has been set,
aside to honor mariners
who lost their lives on the
waters. This year, for the
first time, the Royal
Canadian Legion Branch
109 honored active and
retired sailors, fisher-
men, and others involved
in the shipping trade with
a dinner and dance at the
legion hall.
The Mariners Service,'
held at Knox
Presbyterian Church,
was. conducted by the
Reverends Lockhart
Royal and Ronald
McCallum. The Harbour
Aires sang at the Sunday
evening service which
was broadcasted over
CKNX radio in Wingham.
The church was
decorated with marine
equipment and flags
