WHITE The regular meeting of the Women's Missionary Society of Knox 'Presbyterian Church was. held on Tuesday, February 19. Mrs. G. Kaitting, president read a poem "Brighten the Corner Where You Are", follow,ed by prayer. She then welcomed all members and guests. The minutes of the last meeting were read and the roll call showed 19 present. Mrs. 0. Falkiner read thank you messages from Elliott, Mrs.• Vi Raynard, Mrs. James and Mrs: R. McAllister. Mrs. G. Young presented a new book,• "Time Out, . Ladies" by, Dale Evans Rogers to the Auxiliary, library. Members were advised of the World Day of Prayer to be held at 7 p.m., March 7 in the First Baptist Church, The . Boat People arrived this week and accommodation for them. has been procured on Huron Road. Any donations of household articles , would be ap- preciated (phone 524- 2076). The Presbyterian Synodical is to be held in Brantford on April 22 and 23. An Honorary Life Membership certificate was presented to Mrs. Gordon Kaitting for .her tireless and enthusiastic work in the W.M.S. by Life Membership secretary, Mrs. G. C. - Whil=e._ ......_ ' Mrs. Clayton Edward then introduced the study book, "Middle East Mosaic". With the use of maps, she gave an insight into the geographical layout of the Middle East. She very capably covered the religions and cultures in the area and what effect they are having on the problems of today. After leading in prayer, she closed the meeting by reading in unison the hymn, "In Christ there is no East or West" This Is one of the two life buoys that decorated the chancel of Knox Presbyterian Church for the Mariners Service last Sunday evening. Water. • The Port of Goderich is dependent upon. the lake and the network of shipping companies that use it. Lest the people of Goderich forget this, the last Sunday in February_ since 1903 has been set, aside to honor mariners who lost their lives on the waters. This year, for the first time, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 honored active and retired sailors, fisher- men, and others involved in the shipping trade with a dinner and dance at the legion hall. The Mariners Service,' held at Knox Presbyterian Church, was. conducted by the Reverends Lockhart Royal and Ronald McCallum. The Harbour Aires sang at the Sunday evening service which was broadcasted over CKNX radio in Wingham. The church was decorated with marine equipment and flags A.A.C.W. discuss bake sale The A.C.W. of St. George's Church met on Tuesday evening, February 19, with a good attendance. Mrs. Eileen Bea.uchamin, 'president, opened the meeting with prayer, followed by reports from the secretary and treasurer. Discussion • followed concerning the upcoming mammoth bake sale to be held on March '1 at the mall. Plans for a sum,m.er garden party and an outdoor auction sale some time in June, were also discussed. Roz Campbell showed a film" and lunch was served by the hostesses, Grace Hall and Eileen Beauchamin. The next meeting will be held March 18 and the hostesses will be Dorothy Sowerby and Doris Harrison. Councillor Stan Profit spoke the words in his remarks to • those present. Hudson Milburn was Master of Ceremonies for the dinner and the head table included' 32 guests. Eight house flags were presented to Robert Chapman, Deputy Commander Zone CI, on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 and its president Mr. Roy Mugford. Companies presenting 'the flags in-,. eluded N.M Paterson, Soo River, 'Imperial Oil, Upper Lakes Shipping,. Scott Misener, Algoma Central Railway, Hall Inc., and Carryore. Guest speaker for the evening _ -was._--G-eai=ge._ Parsons, president of Goderich Elevators Limited. He spoke about the past, present and future of G-oder-ich's harbour, emphasizing his theme, "heritage is people." The dinner ended on a humorous note with a skit by three, `sailors' who called themselves the Jolly Rogers, headed by piper Mr. John Stevely. The oldest sailor present at the event was Mamie Sutcliffe, who got up and sang a sailor's song and did a step dance. After this, she was presented with a dozen red carnations by Barney Davis.
