Policyholders *arit hean office to leweipain .
Policyholders of the
West Wawanosh Mutual
Fire Insurance Company
filled the 'Dungannon •
Agricultural Hall on
Friday afternoon,
February 15 to t911 their
board of directors . they
want the company's head -
office
to stay in
Dungannon.
The location of the head
office was ;:on the com-
pany •nnuanting
agenda because the
board is considering
building a new office.
Mutual Insurance
companies have received
approval from the
provincial government to
write car and com-
mercial insurance, which
will, require .the addition
of possibly two staff at
the company's head
office in Dungannon. The
present office will not
accommodate any more
staff.
The company's bylaw
states that the head office
of the corporation must
be located In Dungannon.
The company's board of
directors proposed the
wording be changed to, at
or near Dungannon or, at
or near, a place to be
determined at an annual
meeting.
President of the board;
Eldon Bradley told the
policyholders thatland
along Huron County Road
1, north of concession 4,
Ashfield is not in
Dungannon but in Ash-
field Township, ac-
cording ,to the Official
plan for Dungannon.
He said unless the
bylaw was changed it
would seriously limit
where the new office
could be .loca,ted in
Dungannon'and still
remain on Huron County
Road 1.
Bradley ".also asked
policyholders to consider
that several years from ,
now there may no longer
be a post office and bank
in Ditaffannon. to Serve'
the company's head
office.
Several policyholders
expressed their opinions'
concerning the office
being moved out of
Dungannon. They felt if
the office were to leave
Dungannon' the post of-
fice and the bank would
be the next to go. IVIostof
the members:, who. spoke
to the proposal 'stated
they' wanted the head
office to remain in tha
hamlet -to keep

Cora Thompson of
Kincardine, retired
assistant secretary -
manager of the company, ,
said that she and her
husband, Frank, former

banking, before chequing
charges were dropped by
p Canadian tanks. She said
she felt it was no serious'
hardship to drive to do
the company's banking
and she did not see why it
should affect the location
of the head office. She
commented that
Dungannon has increased
to twice the population
since she moved there.
Austin Martin, a
director on the board,
asked the meeting to
consider that almost one-
half of the policyholders
live north of Highway 86.
He said moving the head
office out of Dung-m.71On
would not kill Dungan-
non, because he believed
it was the combustion
engine which had killed
little hamlets like
Dungannon.
He said the
policyholders north of
Highway 86 do not know
where Dungannon is any
more than policyholders
in the Dungannon area
know where Eden Grove
is. He- said Dungannon
does not provide the
services • other larger
centres • do. ,He asked
those who attended the
meeting to coasider that
policyholdeh north of
Highway 86 should be
considered in the location
of the head office.
One policyholder•
suggested a house be
purchased for .the
secretary -manager and
the living quarters .
To-cated in the compan-7'1
head office building could
be removed for More
office space.
Donald McKenzie, a
director on the board
replied it would cost more
to renovate the old
building than to build a

company should build a
