'then on Sunday evening they clipped the B. division champs, • Kin- cardine, 4-2 to winthe tournament Grand Championship. The climb to the Grand Championship took St. Clements on a five -game series in two days. In their First tour- nament , game St. Clements— dispose'd—of Port Stanley 8-3. They led 4-0 after one period and 7- 1 after two periods. " - They met tougher opposition in Zurich, in their second round match, but came out on top 4-1. The Old Saints scored three times in the opening - period and a 'single in the second period before surren- dering the lone Zurich goal in the final period. In the third period they outscored Windsor .4-2 to win the gold medals. , In the Grand Cham- pionship, St. Clements. faced a' tough test from the B Division --winners, Kincardine. St. Clements scored four goals in the final period to win 4-2 in their third game of the day. Kincardine led 1-0 heading into the final period and led 2-1 mid- way through the period before St. Clements got untracked. They scored three goals in six minutes to win 9-2. Kincardine captain Norm'' Mallette fired a wrist shot from the slot in the fin-al•—minute--to -14-ft Kincardine to the gold,. medal win in a come - from -behind -effort. • Hanover held .a one - goal lead before .Kin - cardia tied the game on a goal by Keith Davidson early in the second period. The teams played through 19 scoreless minutes in the final period before Mallette scored the winning goal. The win was the second of the tournament for Kincardine after their opening round loss .to Zurich., Kincardine lost a tough contest in the first round losing 4-3 on penalty shots. The teams were tied ' 1-1 heading into the. final period but . Zurich took lead after four minutes of the period. 'Kincardine fought back to tie the game on Gary Juniper's goal and send it into overtime. Mlldmay - Sailors series tied at one If the first two games are any indication, the M1d1rnay-Goderich Sailors -series --could turrr into a home game series reminiscent of last year. In the opening game of the series here Thursday the Sailors ripped the Monarchs - 7-1, The Monarchs evened things up Sunday, shading the Sailors 7-6 to deadlock the series • at . one game apiece. The third game of the series will ,be played in Goderich Friday at 8.30 p.m. and the fourth game will be held in Walkerton, Sunday at 2 p.m. The fifth game will likely go in Goderich, Friday„ March 7. The Sailors were full value for their win in the opening game, pumping seven goals past John Chantry in the Monarch- net onarchnet while getting some. steady goaltending from Dennis Fleischauer. The second game was close until the teams had a shootout in the final period, scoring a total of 10 goals. They played through a scoreless first period and Mildmay clung to a 7-1 lead heading into the final 20 minutes of play. But.. eachteam scored five times in the final period to produce the 7-6 result. The Sailors trailed 7-4 late in the final period'but got back in the game with a goal at 15.01 ,and pulled within one with a powerplay goal with just over a minute left in the game. Dave Bartliff and Dan Duncan led the Sailors with two goals apiece. In their second game the Oldtimers blanked London 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals. Buck Million scored waht proved to be the winning goal in the second period and Ken Lee added an `insurance marker into an empty net in the final period. St. Clements defeated Goderich in the semi- final scoring three times in the final period in the 5- 2 victory.
