Today I visited the
'Venice Art League tar the
first time this season.
They have a fine art
exhibit in the gallery -
watercolors and
photography. There are
some beautiful water-
. color paintings. hanging
and a. few photos.
"Watercolour is very.
popular down here and
these are beautifully
.done. There wereonly a
few people in the studio -
several in the sculpture
classes but I knew them
all and it was so nice to be
greeted so en-
thusiastically.

Friday is a sort of 'freer,
day for everyone from 9
to 4 and quite a few ar-
tists take advantage of it.
It is wonderful to have the
studio for a whole day
and you are working with
some new and some
more or less professional
artists. It's good for you.
So I'm getting back into
the groove again.I can
use the Recreation Hall
here during the day to
paint in - but I think I will
still go to Venice for
Fridays. Venice is .19
miles front here. Mon-
days Iliave sorne classes
to -attend and I will be
getting some portraiture
lessons.
There are so many
things t� do - places tp go -
but with the gas situation,
I don't- intend -to. any
-too often. Gas is $1.04 per
gallon here. a the short
gallon - and with over 18
Cern .off our dollar, it
does come high.
I notice many of the gas
stations are closing up on
the weekend - and there
have been many lineups
for'the go go stuff. They
have monthly quotas.
The .. circus has left
Venice for another part of
the country. Their show,
put together for the new
season with new acts,.
costumes and all the new
thrills for the , "Biggest
Show on ` • Earth"
premieresin Venice, then
on to Tampa and away
they go to other parts of
the country.
People . are becdming
very tense and uneasy
over the hostage and,
Russian situation - where
will it all end? Guess .we,:
can just PRAY.
In our Park there are
quite a few Canadians
and everyone is very
friendly. There are two
couples from Port Albert
- the Kavanaghs and the
Wrefords, who had other
couples from Port Albert
over New Year's eve - the
Williams - George and his
brother and their wives.
So the greeting of the
New Year was fun and
believe it or not, Walt had
a dance' with me - I could
scarcely believe it and
everyone clapped! He;
-has surely come a long
way in the last year. He is
r�tally trying��t_has��gn---
a long, hard, frustrating
time for him (5 years) but
I think- he's going to lick
it. Being able to get out in -
the nice weather really
helps,
The ^Williams folks
enjoyed their visit and
the partying - I've not
seen so much fun with so
little hard drinking: for a
long time...it was won-
derful. 1 -was nice that
most of us were home
safe and sound after
walking a couple of
blocks.
Many of the stores were
,open Christmas and New
Year's day and on the
Wednesday everything
was back to normal.
It is hard to keep your
mind on January when
there is no snow or cold.
Most people are in shorts
and light clothing,
temperature is' in the
seventies and it is just a
bright, sunny world.
We have a bridge group
that plays Wednesday
nights - justjhree tables
and just three or four
men. Tonight three of the
men landed at the one
table. They are all hard of
hearing and talk so loudly
you can hardly hear at
the other tables. Guess
