The. two, commented on a sunarnar,y of ex- penditures by council members which showed, Palmer as the most . expensive member and 'Haydon .second. .Mayor Harry , Worsell was a - close third.' The summary of ex- penses details what each council member received for handling town affairs during the year. Each council member -receives .. annual remuneration for serving on„ council and is paid monthly for , expenses when on town business. Mayor WorSell is paid $5,735.28 a year, twice what council members receive. The other eight members • receive $2,867.64 annually. Palmer's approved expenses for the year were the largest of any member of council totalling • $1,720.68,. The reeve told council she had the "feeling she was being needled" about the expense and while she didn't feel "apologetic" she felt she should ex- plain the expenses. -Palmer said the town of. God erieh •-is_' "big. business" with a $5.5 'million budget. She said• the town can't afford to have council members running that business "without knowing .what they're doing". • Palmer said she served on two provincial organizations, ` representing muhicipalities in Ontario, and said : those duties were very beneficial to. taxpayers here. She. said --he •- was sure she spent "halt as much again" as the town paid her, •- "Otfr travel schedule bylaw is good but it's not great," said Palmer. She added that for the $2, 887,54. ay -ear salary the. taxpayers are paying for 24 hour a day representation is a "good deal". Councillor Elsa Haydon told council she feels "rather 'worry I'm number two in this case". Haydon agreed with Palmer',s: comments adding that the town could be proud of the fact that two of its elected representatives served on organizations with national contact. Haydon said she felt -she "offered good value" to .the town for her ex- penses adding that any -council members that make no effort . to attend semin ss ; or conferend'es to leakn aboutmunicipal._. politics are "short- changing constituents and fooling themselves if they think they can stay home and be informed".
