Like grapefruit, oranges are an excellent
source of vitamin C, which the body needs to
replace daily in order to maintain good stand-
ards of health. A greater percentage of vitamin
C and other health 'giving properties are ob-
tained when the juice and pulp are eaten. There
is more iron in the total, edible part of an
orange than in the peel.; thus, one of the reasons
for recommending eating the whole edible por-
tion of fresh oranges, rather than just the
juice. Much more nutriti.ous! Oranges are low
11 sodium and calories. One medium orange
contains 45 calories.
The weight of an orange is indicative of its
juice content. Make sure the fruit is firm and
has a skin that it not too rotibil. Optimum
storage conditions are 32°F and 90% relative
humidity.
