Maitland Ladies hold playoff and jitney
On Wednesday night the ladies held a
combination jittney and play-off at
Maitland Curling Club.
On ice one Nancy McKinnon's team at
the end of the sixth and final end was tied
with Kay King's team of Anne Steward,
Beth Main and Michelle Lakachko. The tie
was broken in extra play with a beautiful
shot by McKinnon's Lead Margaret St.
Louis. This win placed McKinnon's team
in first place overall for the draw. Con-
gratulations Nancy on skipping your ex-
cellent team of Phyllis Lawrence, vice, Vi
Stringer, second and Margaret St. Louis.
lead.
Ice two saw another tie as Jean McGee's
team. skipped by Lesley Zolob with Holly
Doherty, Roberta Machan and Emily
Crew, attempted to win over Nancy
Nephew's team. Nephew's team gained
the extra point for a final score of 5-4 giv-
ing her second place overall for the draw.
Congratulations to Nancy Nephew's team
of Lexie O'Neil. Georgia Ball and Helen
Dickie.
Ice three saw an interesting game with
Karen Kirk's tears against Doreen Gar -
row's tears of Colleen Maguire, Dana Gar-
rett and Faye Ribey. The opening ends
were close but the final score was 5-4 for
Kirk's Team. This win gave Kirk's team of
Kathy Hamilton, Ruth Jermyn and Donna
Finnigan third place overall for the draw.
Colleen Maguire kept everyone enter-
tained by wearing her kilt on the coldest
curling night this draw.
Curling has wound down for the
Christmas break, but here are a few
results of the past week's games:
MONDAY INDUSTRIAL
Bill King's Book worms suffered their
first loss at the hands of Worsell's
Plumbers, who defeated them 7 - 4 in an
exciting game.
Ed Mundle's McGees team socked the
Firemen and Ed Crittenden with a 10 - 4
score, and Eleanor Erskine and her
Roadrunner's ran away with the game,
whipping Karen Kirk and her Rosemary's
team 10 - 1. ( We all have games like that
Karen!
In another big -scoring game, Dixie's
Flowers buried the Bank of ('onunerce
team 15 - 2.
The Monday night Industrial will be
starting again on .Jan 6, and if you have a
team you would like to enter, contact Bill
King.
TUESDAY MEN'S
There were two big games in the final
night of the. men's event, with undefeated
,Jiro Bell facing one -game loser Johnny
Orr, and the other one -game loser, Rodger
Moore taking on 1301) 1 )empsey.
The Moore -Dempsey game was a real
crowd-pleaser, as Rodger scored two corn-
ing home to tie it and send it to an extra
end. With some terrific corner raises,
Rodger was able to get one buried behind
cover and Bob tried a long raise take-out to
try and win the game with his last rock.
There wasn't more than a centimetre to
spare as the raised rock spun past
Rodger's shot rock, but it missed it, and
Rodger won the gams' to garner second
place in the standings.
In the Bell -Orr contest, the two teams
were evenly matched all the way through,
with 13e11 holding a one -rock advantage
coming home, but Orr had the hanuner.
That's where things fell apart for the Orr
team. Their strategy backfired and they
ended up giving up a big five -ender to hand
.lin) the win on a platter. On .Jinn Bell's
team were Tom Moore, vice, John Har-
rison. second and neW( orner• Mikc Henry
lead. Congratulations guys on a great
round of six wins and nu losses!
