Unlike a women's shelter which is primarily concerned with helping physical- ly and mentally abused women, a family resource centre's role is enlarged to provide shelGer and help for a number of crisis situa tions; family violence, marital difficulties arising from rape, pregnancy, alcoholism, housing, employment or health. The Ontaio Ministry of Community and Social Services has agreed tofund per cent of the budget for the establishrdent of the centre and the remaining 20 per cent will come from fund raising. The operation of the Women's House will be administered by a board made up of in- terested citizens from the community. Statistics obtained from police, doctors, lawyers etc. shows the amount of family violence in the area to warrant a shelter. Statistics nation wide show one in 10 women is physically abused by her spouse.
