the Mustangs to handle. The Vikes scored 13
points a quarter with an offensive output
which totalled 443 yards and accumulated
19 first downs. In seven games this season,
he Wingham defence allowed 111 points, 93
of which came in their two meetings with
he Vikings, once in the regular schedule
acrd here in the championship game
Thursday.

touchdown in each quarter on runs of one
yard, four yards, 12 yards and 14 yards.

ground gainer with a total of 842 yards. He
also led the team in touchdowns with 10.

two touchdowns to his teams total here
Thursday. This gave him a total of nine
)touchdowns for the season and a total yar-
•
dage of 435 running. He also was 18 for 35 in
pass completions for the year, and com-
pleted six of those fdr touchdowns.
Jeff MacDonald scored a first quarter

fumble recovery following a Viking punt in-
to the Madill end zone. That play came after
an unsuccessful Madill gamble on third

The other Viking touchdown was scored
by Sean Wilson on a two yard dive in the
fourth quarter. Jim Wright kicked four con-

The Vikings led .?6:-L3 at half-time, and.

the final quarter as the game turned into a
rout.
In the seven games they played in the
regular season and playoffs, the Vikings
outscored their opponents 270 - 28.
The championship victory was especially
pleasing to the Vikings as a bit of revenge
over the Mustangs, the team which
eliminated them in the semi-finals last year.
ailors lose a close one. 6-5 to the Barons
The Hanover Barons' undefeated streak
in 011A Junior "("' hockey did not come to
an encs here Friday night, but it was severe-
ly tested by the Goderich Sai' irs who lost (i -
5 to the seemingly invincible Barons.
The Fianover tears has an undefeated
record, «hich covers all of last season's 30
league games and eight games so far this

Robbie Nixon 01 the Hanover net.

held the Sailors at bay. kicking out shot
after shot when they controlled play for long
stretches. Sailors' goalie Randy Gaynor
also played well, but was not subjected to
the pressure Nixon faced.
The game was fast -paced and kept the
good-sized crowd excited as the flow of play
went first one way and then the other.
Brad Armstrong got the Sailors into the
lead early. scoring on a backhand shot dur
ing a Goderich powerplay just over four
minutes into the game. Kevin Lee and Tim
Chisholm assisted on the play.
Hanover came back with two goals within
a minute to take the lead. Rob Beitz and
Richard Graham were the marksmen, but
the Sailors' John Thompson tied it up with
his hard shot from the right side with less
than three minutes left in the period. Todd
.Jeffrey assisted on Thompson's goal.
in the third period on Friday tragedy struck the Goderich Sailors. As Todd Graham a
Goderich forward was handling the puck with his head down, hen a Hanover player ehecked
him heavily. Graham tried to make it into the Goderich bench for treatment but he col-

coming out of the penalty box just in time to
pick up a loose puck and fire it past Randy

ly to see Hanover come back with three
goals of their own.
The Sailors' first goal came when
defenceman Daryl Madge, at the Hanover

Although the girls were short-handed an
had only one practice they played an ex-
cellent game.
Special thanks to goalie Sheila Donnelly
who started off the 1985 season by playing an
excellent game.
Coaches Bill Garrow and Bruce Baker
will lose 18 of this year's team to the senior
Vikes next season. Included in that number
is running back Bill Trebish who was the

Trebish, had a yardage total of 783 for the

It's going to
be a close one
With one Huron -Perth junior football
championship under their belt, the GDCI
Senior Vikings are hoping to do the same
on Saturday against the Exeter Pan-
thers.
But they are not telling the fire depart-
ment to warm up the hook and ladder
truck just yet. The juniors have already
had their ride around town, but the
seniors are facing their nemesis, the
mighty Exeter Panthers.
The Panthers won five games and lost
one during the regular season. Goderich,
on the other hand, had an identical five
and one record. The two teams met in the
first game of the seasbn and South Huron
(Exeter) beat the Vikings 15-7.
In the fifth game of the season, the two
teams met again in Goderich with the
Vikings winning 8-0. The teams are even
in wins, losses and outscored each other
by the same number of points during
regular season, forcing a coin toss to
determine the location of the final.
Goderich won the toss and thus we
have the battle of the titans set for Nov. 9
two days before Remembrance Day.
During the season the two teams were
evenly matched. At the end of the season
Goderich had scored 236 points against
their opposition and had only 15 scored
against them. The Exeter Panters scored
236 points, but allowed only 11.
Remembering back to last Sunday
when Brent Mussberger and Jimmy
"The Greek" went over the weeks
games, I remembered how they argued
offenses and pondered defenses. I
thought that it would be a good idea to
consult the experts on the classic match
between Exeter and Goderich.
Knowing that Jimmy "The Greek" or
Pete Axehelm would not be available, I
thought of another way to determine the
logical outcome of the game before it was
played.
To accomplish this feat I talked to the
all of the coaches in the league including
Ray Donnelly the Viking coach and Ron
Bogart the Exeter Panther coach. But 1
wasn't satisfied with just talking to the
two generals who were about to do battle
with each other. I wanted more.
I then contacted the other two coaches
iii the league for their comments. I also

This comparison was conducted with the help of three Senior Huron -

In the categories where each team has a check mark, the analysts
could not give one team an edge over the other. For the reasons behind
this data, look In this week's Sports Talk.
