N7A 4B6 Your guide to Christmas gift giving The Sailors have pulled in their anchor and have begun their voyage through the rest of the season with newly found confidence. The Sailors won both games of their weekend home stand. In the first game Friday night they defeated the Wingham Ironmen 9-5. Then on Sun- day they defeated the second placed Port Elgin Bears. Tim Brown and Jamie Robinson had two goals each for the Ironmen and Bill Haines had the other. Against the Bear, the Sailors - back from a 3-1 deficit and looked _ ssive, scoring five unanswered goals in the third period for the win. The turning point in the game came when Randy Gaynor replaced Todd Hinton in the Sailor goal, in the second period with the Bears in front 3-1. The change seemed to inspire the Sailors to greater heights. After giving up one goal to "weekend the Bear's Mike Chennette on a breakaway, Gaynor shut the door on the Bears and Goderich scored seven straight goals. Gaynor also stopped a penalty shot by the Bears Paul Tolton. The shot was awarded when Gaynor threw his stick at the puck while making a save. Four Sailors had two goals apiece. Brad Armstrong, Pete Willems and Grant Gar - row were the triggermen. Lee also had three assists, as did John Thompson. Tim Chisholm, Darren Doak, Todd Graham and Darryl Madge each had one assist. Darryl Ackerman, Rob Judd, Greg Area Elementary cross country teams took part. in a meet at Brookside School -on October 17. School winners were: In the midget boys category, Victoria won. The game featured good fast hockey, despite three fights, bore little resemlance to the boxing match that erupted last time the Bears played here. Friday's game with Hanover is a change in the original schedule. Wingham was originally scheduled to play here, but had to cancel because of commencement excer- cises at the Wingham highschool. Wingham will come here on November 17 to make up the game. Junior girls sweep two straight games from page 1 Black had six, Debbie O'Brien and Mary Jo Evans had two. In the South Huron game, Maureen Stapleton led the attack with 15 points, Jen- ny Allen netted 14, Erin Robinson had five, Pam Fritzley and Mary Jo Evans both had four points, Tammy Talbot had two and Debbie O'Brien 1. These games ended Huron -Perth play and the Junior girls finished with a nine -one record to finish in second place. They will begin playoffs next week. MIDGETS The Midget girls Vikings completed their season with a 51-35 loss against South Huron. Scoring for the Vikings were Julie Melick with 12 points, Jennifer Murray with six points, Teresa Meriam had five, Shelley Adams and Kim Edwards both had four points. Angie Larder and Beth MacDonald had two apiece. The Midgets would like to thank Heidi Elliott for her time and dedica- tion in coaching them. Chess club action hot and heavy BY BARRY PAGE The first official games, using the club's new two level round robin competitions were played last week. Throughout 'the season, each contestant will play a max- imum of two official games with his oppo- nent and accumulate points in a win(2), draw (1) and loss (0) point system. Level 2 saw most of the action when Rob Nau did very well picking up 6 points, followed by John Crawford's 4 points. Several exhibition games were played, notably those between Bob Dick and Dennis Luiting involving a great deal of devious strategy, ending up with Bob securing both victories. Appointment of Dave McGee as city editor of The Nanalmo Daily Free Press was announced recently by the Canadian Newspapers Company Ltd. At The Daily Free Press, McGee supervises the gathering end presentation of all local news stories in the city of 50,000 people. Nanalmo Is on Vancouver Island, across from Van- couver. Previously, McGee was editor of The Elliot Lake Standard, a twice -weekly newspaper In Northern On- tario. McGee studied loumallam at SL Clair College, Win- dsor, and darted his newspaper career es editor of The Marathon Mercury, a weekly in Northern Ontario, In 1974. He has also served as editor of The Espanola Stan- dard, another weekly in the north, and twice -weekly Orangeville Banner. He Is the eon of Harold and Eileen McGee, Nile.
