Many beautiful slides of Denmark,;: Sweden, and Oslo, Norway, were shown by Everett while Beatrice gave an interestingentary. Francis Schram and Audrey Kerr enter- tained with several musical numbers on the violin and piano during the evening. Audrey Sprung gave two humorous readings - "Bessie Foyle" by Robert Service and "Hitler's Dream". Irene Todd was the capable commentator for an amusing fashion show. The im- aginative creations were designed and modelled by Vi Rutherford, Beulah Long, Vera Margerm, Edith Argyle, Audrey Kerr, Irene Sparks, Grace Bridle, Margaret Jewell, Irene Young, Beatrice Sparling and Barbara McWfdnnie. Joan Henwood was pianist for this production. Janet Kalbfleisch recalled the early steps taken to form a Senior Citizens' Centre in Goderich and reminded the audience of the involvement and support of many people since January 1979, making possible the of- ficial opening of MacKay Centre on October 25, 198p. Throughout the five years since then the support of the town, the Lions Club, and many others has continued. At the pre- sent time we have over 350 members. Everett and Beatrice Sparling have been October is an The month of October has been very busy and enjoyable for residents at Maitland Manor. On Friday, October 11 the residents and staff enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, smorgasbord style. George Dougherty helped to carve the turkey. The staff held a draw for a turkey and the winner was Jean Elliott, who is the hairdresser at Maitland Manor. The Annual Family Potluck Supper was held on Thursday, October 18 at 6:00 p.m. and everyone enjoyed a lovely meal with a wide variety of dishes from which to choose. On Thursday, October 17 some residents attended the Seniors Communion Service at St. Georges Anglican Church and the lunch that followed. On Friday, October 18 a number of residents went to Art Bell's Fruit Farm to watch a demonstration on cider -making. After sampling the cider they went for a drive through Benmiller to take in the fall colours. Herb Bridle introduced the next item on; the program. Throughout the five years; since MacKay Centre opened as a Centre for; Seniors, Bob Henry has taken pictures of; many events. These slides were excellent; pictures of those who took part and brought back pleasant memories of happy and suc- cessful occasions. Russell Alton, Chairman of'- the Board, read a letter from Jack Riddell, M.P.P. con- gratulating ongratulating members of MacKay Centre on: their Fifth Anniversary. Mr. Alton also. thanked the committee and those taking part in the program and mentioned some' upcoming events. Longratulations ladies! The residents and staff will be enjoying Octoberfest Celebrations on Wednesday,: October 30, and then on Thursday, October; 31 will celebrate Hallowe'en. Mrs: Freeman's morning Kindergarten class from Robertson Public School will visit in their Hallowe'en costumes. Each little ghost and goblin will receive a treat while here. A number of residents celebrated their birthdays in October. They were Christina Anderson, Lloyd Zinn, Verda Denomme, Dr. Robert McCosh, Beatrice Payne and Katie Heim. Thanks to Denonune's Flower Shop for providing corsages and boutonniers for our residents. The residents are holding their annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, November 2 from 2-4 p.m. Many craft items including ceramics and knitting will be on sale. The residents will be selling their own cookbook to which staff and family • members con- tributed recipes. There will be a raffle draw for an afghan, ceramic Christmas tree and a ceramic planter and plant. The staff will be running a bake table with proceeds going to the staff fund.
