Two Lionesses elected
to new district executive
Two members of the Goderich Lioness
Club were elected to the first district
executive at a special meeting in Seaforth
Sunday.
Dorothy Bourdeau of Goderich was
acclaimed as the first president of the
newly formed district that encompasses 17
clubs from Seaforth to Lions Head in the
north and east to Orangeville. As
president, Dorothy appointed Yvonne
Porter, also of Goderich, as the district
secretary.
The new Lioness District A9 was
approved in April and the term of office for
the executive extends only to June 30, 1986.
The Goderich Lioness Club was formed
in June 1984 and received its charter in
October of the same year with Dorothy
Bourdeau as president. It now boasts a
membership of 25 ladies.
Affiliated with the Godericli Lions Club,.
the Lioness Club has taken on its own
projects in the year since its inception,
raising money for service work.
The club initiated a regular Diabetes
Clinic which acts as a resource centre for
diabetics and their families and more
recently they assisted with the Lions walk-
a-dog-a-thon.
The other members of the district
executive include; vice-president, Rose
Robinson, Meaford; Frances Teatro,
Seaforth; directors, Dorothy Heyes,
Seaforth, Helen Jacobi, " Walkerton,
Delores Leith, Hanover and Anne
Bierstecker, Meaford.

The gent'ral meeting of Legion Branch 109
was held in {he Jubilee room of the Branch
with 36 members present and Branch Pr,.s:-
dernt .John A. Maci)nnald in the chair.
Two members were initiated into the
Branch by comrades Les Riley and Harold
Chambers assisted by President Mac-
Donald. The two new Associate voting
members were ylarion Schaefer and Chris
Crowle.)
Motions were passed which allowed the
Branch to this month donate a total of $4106
to four nnaJnr programs These programs
are as follows - $2831 to the Alexandra and
Marin' General Hospital for t he purchase of
an Exac-Syringe and Geriatric ('hair: $550
to allow. the Branch Midget Hockey team to
purchase new .sweaters and crests: $525 for
prizes for the Poems. Fassay and Poster con-
test which is now being conducted in the
local schools. and $200 to the Walk-a-dog-a-
thon which is promoting seting-ey c clogs
The Branch will also pick up the minor mist
of entering the names of our veterans in
Parkwood hospital in the Branch weekly
draw.
A motion was passed that the Branch pur-
chase two dart cabinet, which will be in-
stalled in the Jubilee rIirinl as part of the
twelve dart cabinets which will allow the
Branch to host major dart tournaments
Comrade Claire Bedard. who constructed
these dart cabinets, reports that they are
now completed and ready to he hung.
Menibership chairman Carolyn Holborn
reported a request for transfer of Ken S.
Swan and Don A. Thompson to Branch 109
from Branch 238 Fenelon Falls. and the
transfer of George Low and Bill McCallum
out of Branch 109. These transfers were ac-
cepted by the Branch The Branch also ac-
cepted the application tor membership of
Dort Deer and Clarence Demars: the re- in-
statement of Ron B. Glousher and the re-
application from T Hatch and Dan G. Ray-
mond.
Membership dues in Branch 109 are now
being accepted. The annual due for Or-
dinary and Associate members is $25 and
these may be paid at the canteen or by mail.
The membership chairman will be available
to accept Legion dues in the Jubilee room
following the parade on November 11.
Fraternal members will pay their dues from
December 1st 19115 to January 31. 1986.

The Entertainment committee will be
sponsoring a Halloween dance in the Vimy
lounge on Saturday October 26.
The Legion Service Officer will be here on
October 29th. Alcyone wishing to see the Ser-
vice Officer is asked to contact the Branch
Service Officer Don McArthur at 4-713.3.
At this meeting comrade Bob Chapman
donated a large poster of the 75th Anniver-
sary of the Royal Canadian Navy to the
Branch. The Branch PRO was instructed to
have this poster framed and hung in the
Branch. The poster has now been framed by
comrade Claire Bedard.
A Leadership and Planning Seminar has
been organized by the chairman. Bob Chap-
man and will be held at the Branch on Satur-
day October 26th at 2 p.m. All members.
especially our Associate members, are re-'
quested to attend this seminar which will
discuss various aspects of the Legion such
as membership. publicity. honours and
awards and how to register a complaint, as
a member of the Legion.
The .Jubilee chairman wishes to thank
those comrades who assisted in the distribu-
tion of tulip bulbs to the schools and reports
that the tulip bulbs donated to the town will
be planted next week. Anyone who purchas-
ed Legion tulip bulbs should plant them
within the next month.
The Branch sports chairman Alan Fisher
reported that he and three other members
will attend the District sports meeting in
Milton on November 3rd. On November 24th
the Grey Cup football game will be shown at
the branch on the big screen.
The Branch poppy chairman reports that
most of the poppy order has now arrived and
plans are being made for the annual poppy
campaign. The poppy canvass by members
of the Branch will be held on Sunday
November 3rd commencing at 1 p.m. On
Sunday November 10 the Branch will
parade to Knox Presbyterian Church for the
annual church service and on November 11
the Remembrance Day parade and service
will be held. Following this parade the
members will be given an opportunity to
sign the Articles of Faith which will later be
framed and hung in the Vimy lounge.
The next executive meeting of the Branch
will be held on Tuesday October 29 at 7:30
p.m. The next general meeting of the
Branch is scheduled for Tuesday November
5th at 7:30 p.m.
