Penalties were the biggest contributor to
Hanover's first regular season victory over
.the Sailors. Five of the six goals scored in
the game were on the powerplay. Hanover
had 48 minutes in penalties in the game,
while Goderich had 42.
Goderich coaches Dan Duncan and" "Tag"
Sowerby were pleased with their teams per-
formance.
'I'o make the team more competitive they
have been recruiting new players with
.Junior hockey experience. An example of
this is .John }tahbek who played right wing
for the Sailors Friday night. He made a real
contribution to the team. Last year he
played with the Clinton -Junior Mustangs.
Pete Willems another former Mustang join-
ed the Sailors for Sunday nights game.
On Sunday, night the Sailors hosted the
Kindcardine team. The game was a high
scoring affair but the Sailors came out on
top 8-7 for their first regular season victory.
It was the last shot wins kind of game as the
goaltending was not outstanding at either
end. But the goal scoring made the game
more exciting for the fans.
Down 3-1 early in the second period the
Sailors fought back off of two goals by Kevin
Lee and one by Kevin i.ee. With three
minutes left in the second period four goals
were scored. Kincardine scored the first two
off of Derrick Skinner and Shawn Burton
and Goderich countered with markers by
Kevin Lee his third and Darren Daok. Muck

of the scoring was a result of penalties. Kin-
cardine had six in the second period while
Goderich had five. Goderich lead 4-3 at the
end of the second.
In the third Goderich's John Thompson
scored for the Sailors. Kincardine answered
with two of their own. With a little under two
minutes to go in the game and the score tied
Sailor forward Pete William scored with a
shot from the boards to give Goderich the
win 8-7.
The Sailors next home game is this Friday
night at 8:30 p.m. against the Walkerton
Black Hawks. In exhibition play the fast
skating Hawks beat the Sailors 8-2, but
Goderich is now much improved and it
should be a good game. Sunday the Sailors
play in Hanover at 1 p.m.
The Goderich .Junior l" Sailors began their 1985-86 regular schedule
aver the weekend with a two game home stand. On Friday night the
Sailors lost to a strung Hanover team 4-2. On Sunday night the
Sailors hosted the Kincardine team and won the contest 8-7. Friday
night the Sailors host the Walkerton Black Hawks. When the two
teams met last in exhibition play the Hawks won 8-2. When the two
teams meet Friday night at 8:30 the Hawks will face a much im-
