Itis necessary to be familiar with one's background and history in order to appreciate and Comprehend existing conditions. The residents of Goderich Township have researched and doctunented the history of the township and its people with commendable accuracy in its first history book. A second volume is now in the works. The research and subsequent publication of historic material has put the township in touch with its roots and beginnings. It has given the people a new sense of perspective. The year of celebration has already been an active one and will culminate with the week- long celebrations July 15-21. There have been many activities leading up to the celebrations and more will follow through the balance of the 1-5-0 year. But many people have worked long and arduous hours in preparation for this gala celebration. In fact, the work began years ago. That the township could produce such a fine history book and organize such an ambitious program of events over an entire years speaks well of its citizenry. They were organized, they worked and they are to be commended. 1 Many former Goderich Township citizens will be back for the celebrations, acquaintances and friendships will be renewed, there will be memories and there will be good times. From the staging of the farm show, sports activities, barbeques, variety shows, the parade, reunions, displays and tours to the quiet times, the week-long celebration in Goderich Township promises to be a good time. To the people of Goderich Township we wish you a most succesful and memorable celebration.
