Happy years at HolxnesVille
will never be forgotten
BY DAVID JONES
Mr. Kane, honored guests, teachers,
special&nests, and fellovv graduates; we the
1-5-0graduating class of Holmesville Public
School are assembled here tonight to par-
ticipate in our last official function as
classmates.
We are saying goodbye to the school
where many of us started kindergarten
together. As we graduate from Holmesville
we have mixed emotions as we will be going
to two different high schools.
We are disappointed to leave our super
teachers who have supported us through
good and bad. We have developed many
close friendships. Many of these will change
in the future, but I'm sure that our paths will
still cross.
The closeness and fellowship of teachers
and students have made our years at
Holmesville happy ones filled with en-
thusiasm, hard work, fun and achievement—
years we will never forget.
We vividly remember learning our basic
skills, the apprehension of our first concert,
the lines forgotten in public speaking, the
fun of competition, the thrill of winning in
sports events and carrying home the cham-
pionship penant, the first note on our
musical instruments, the sense of pride and
accomplishment in science fair exhibits,
and the outstanding applause at our operet-
tas. These activities have helped to bind us
together to learn that we are friends.
Ours is a school worthy of our honor and
praise for we have learned many lessons not
only in classroom studies, but also in living,
lessons in friendship, self-discipline, sport-
smanaliip, cooperation and charity towards
one another. We were given the right to ex -
pre pvefreelY • and originall,v;
steadiness and determination were en-
couraged inall of us.
We shall always remember the friendship
and support of those who guided us in our
studies. They are the ones who have so firm-
ly laid the foundation stones upon which we
have had the opportunity to build. Perhaps,
we often failed to appreciate the assistance
they offered so freely. We thank you, our
teachers and parents, for the guidance you
have given us, as well as your patience,
understanding, tolerance, enthusiasm and
interest in us as individuals.
We must now leave behind this part of our
lives and look forward to a new road, one
which we must begin to travel individually,
making our own decisons along the way.
There will be more difficult problems to
solve and greater obstacles to overcome as
we work hard to reach greater heights of
education. However, we have sufficient
background to meet these challenges suc-
cessfully. Our most difficult challenge will
be to separate the negative from the
positive, to choose for ourselves those things
in life which will be good for us and our
family and friends.
We must all have direction, a master plan,
that will guide us to success. We must never
lose sight of those goals and purposes. We
have been proud of our school. Now we hope
to make it proud of us as we pursue our
goals and ambitions whatever they may be.
GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE!
