Our main business
in this world is to secure
an interest in the next
By Herbert A. McLeod
It has been well said that - "It is our main
business in this world to secure an interest
in the next." How much do you think about.
Heaven? While it is possible to be so heaven-
ly minded that you are no earthly good; yet-
most of us need to give more thought about
it and our readiness, or lack of it, to go
there.
A person may go to Heaven without
health, wealth, fame, name, learning,
culture, beauty, friends, or ten thousand
other things. But he can never make it
without Jesus Christ. Heaven is a City with -
Love for its Law, Perfection fbr its Stan-
dard, Angels for its Ministers, Saints for its
Citizens, and Jehovah for its God. Clarke E.
Gage aid: "When I try to describe Heaven,
I feel as if I were going forth with a tallow
candle to try to illuminate a golden sunset."
Jesus said: "I go to prepare a place for
you; and if I go, I will come aeain to receive
you unto Myself that where I am there you
may be also." It is indeed, an "out -of -this -
world" place prepared for a prepared peo-
ple. It is a City without grief or graves, sin
or sorrow, aching or aging. It has no night of
despair, sea of sorrow, or times of trouble.
One of the wonders about all this is that
more people do ,not seriously prepare to
make it their Eternal Home. We insure our
liyes, automobiles, homes, furnishings and
retirement, but so many are so careless
about their Eternal Life. Let us all remind
ourselves again that, - time is passing so
swiftly, Life is so short at the longest and
uncertain at best, ?nd that Eternity is so
long and so permanent. And then, let us be
sure we are ready for that Final Day.

Lutheran Church, Goderich was part of the
66th regular convention of the Ontario
District, Lutheran Church -Missouri Synod
where the decision was reached to approve
the establishment of an autonomous
Lutheran Church -Canada.
The convention was held at Brock Univ-
srsity, St. Catharines, June 13 -16.
In voting for Lutheran Church -Canada,
the Ontario District joins the • Alberta -
British Columbia District and the Manitoba -
Saskatchewan District which also have
voted in favor of partner status with the
mother Synod based in St. Louis, Missouri.
Ontario's association with Missouri Synod
began 107 years ago. Until recently, all
pastors and teachers for the provinces 92
Missouri Synod congregations have been
trained in U.S. seminaries and colleges. All
administrative direction, all mission
outreach and all published materials came
via the United States offices.
At the present time, two Canadian
seminaries are in operation - one in Edmon-
ton, Alberta, and one in St. Catharines. For-
ty men are enrolled in these two locations
studying for the parish ministry in Canada.
The Rev. Elroy Treit of Vancouver is
president of Lutheran Church -Canada (LC-
C 1. Plans are to establish a National Church
office in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Pastor Treit spoke to the convention
delegates and urged them to "get into a new

Dear Editor,
Mr. C.F. Barney, of the Jehovah's Witness
sect, proffered a query to your newspaper
which you published in your June 12th edi-
tion, the query being "Why do most Cana-
dians claim that Jesus Chkist is God." I
would like to attempt to an wer that ques-
tion if I may be so' -permitted.
Christians worship a triune God - God who
is three persons in one, those three persons
being God the Father, God the Son the Lord
Jesus Christ and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus
tells us in the King James version of the Bi-
ble that "1 and the i"atheTare one." He says
• You who have seen me have seen the
Father." John 10:30&38, "The Father is in
me, and I in him." I John 5:7 states "There
are three that bear record in heaven, the
Father, The Word, (the Son1, and the Holy
Ghost; and these three are one." Acts 2:36
_af£irms_the Word is God by saying "God
has made that sameJesus whom you have
crucified both Lord and Christ." Jesus is
Lord Jehovah, the God we worship.
We who are born again by the Spirit of
Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour God know
the truth of this word, because we have the
witness of Jesus as Lord within our hearts
and minds. We know Jesus Christ as our ind-
welling God. And nothing can satisfy man as
does the person of our Lord God within us.
We worship the living God in the living tem-
ple of our body. He it is who has brought us
life. He alone made us to be free from the
graveyard of sin and self. In Jesus Christ is
the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Colos-
sians 2:9.
I hope this answers your question We are
true believers who worship God in spirit and
in truth. We the believers of Jesus Christ our
Lord God invite you to likewise partake of
His life, simply by inviting Him to be the
Lord and Saviour of your fife. He died for the
sins of all, and rose again to be the Life of all
who call upon him in spirit and in truth. His
is the name above all names, whereby every
man must be saved. By grace we are saved,
and not of works, lest any man should boast,
it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:4-9.
We know that Jesus Christ is God - He
lives within our hearts! By the Lord God we
live, and by the Lord God we reign for ever
and ever. Revelations 22:5. Praise be to his
Holy Name which wrought for us the
forgiveness of sins and gave us such an in-
heritance!
Yours in Christ.

vehicle that will better carry the message of
Christ to this great nation". He reminded
them it was time for Lutherans of Missouri
Synod affiliation to assume more respon-
sibility for work in their own nation.
"Our people know our needs and know our
challenges", said Treit. "Let us remain true
to our good strong stubborn German
heritage and get on with, the job. There is
need for a confessional Bible based church
in Canada.
One of the advantages of formation of LC-
C include a stepped-up mission outreach to
Eastern Canada where there is no Missouri
Synod work in progres The St. Catharines'
convention passed a resolution for this
growth to begin in the next three years.
Some convention delegates expressed the.
fear that costs would increase substantially
with the formation of LC -C. It was felt the
duplication of services would add un-
necessary expense for Canadians with little
improvement in work accomplished.
"We are not short in dollars", commented
Pastor Treit. "We are short on courage."
There are 3.5 million Missouri Synod
Lutherans in the United States and 100,000 in
Canada.
