Old fashionecl children's fair is part of
Goderich Township 1-5`0 celebration
Puppet shows, a greased pig chase,
games, sports and contests will he held at
the Homesville ball park on Saturday, July
6th. This full day of activities is designed
especially for children as part of Goderich
Township's 1-5-0 celebrations. Most of the
events will be reminiscent of those enjoyed
by children at the old fashioned fairs off
years gone by.
From 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., children
can test their skills at carnival boothes:
fishing for prizes, knocking down bottles
•with a ball, and other traditional4ontests.
Races and games will also be held
throughout the day. Budding athletes; may
wish to start training and looking for a part-
ner for the three-legged and wheelbarrow
races.
Two half hour puppet shows will be held at
10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Marian Doucette
will delight and amuse children of a wide
variety of ages with her stories, rhymes and
finger, hand and lap puppets. Marian is a
talented puppeteer, who designs and makes
her own puppets, and performs all over
Southern Ontario. In case of rain the puppet
shows will be held in the Goderich Township
Hall.
At noon a plentiful supply of barbecued
hotdogs will be available for a small, token
fee.
To add to the fun, clowns (the Holmesville
slow pitch team in disguise) will be cir-
culating among the children, handing out
uat}(wits, ein,em:L Llwg and performing other
important jobs.
After lunch, at 1:00 p.m., the hilarious"
greased pig chase will begin. A lightning-
fast, unco-operative pig will be released, for
a set time limit, while each contestant tries^
to catch it. The task will be made more dif-
ficuit by a slippery coating applied to the
pig. So get out your running shoes and put on•
your old clothes, if you are between the aged -=
of 7-14, and try your luck. A prize will be•
awarded to the winner.
Children of all ages r.( elcome. Admin=
sion is free. Come out tc t lolmesville ball :
park on July 6th,10:00 a.m. w 4:00 p.m., and -
help celebrate Goderich Township's 1-5-0'
while enjoying an old fashioned children's
fair.

Season at Huron Country Playhouse on
Saturday, June 29th in Grand Bend,
This classic family musical is written by
Donald .Harron ( well known TV talk show
host) and Norman Campbell (CBC TV

presented in December 1971 as part of the
Charlottetown Festival and it is still playing
to packed audiences in Prince Edward
Island today.

duction which began rehearsals today. Also
appearing as "Children of Avonlea" are
school students from the Towns of Ailsa.
Craig, Strathroy, Grand Bend, Goderich,
Corunna and Exeter.
Huron Country Playhouse audiences will
fondly remember Jack Northrnore and Non-

Revolving set is
part of opening
For the first time ever, the Playhouse has
designed a revolving set for its first produc-
tion this season, "Anne of Green Gables".
This classic family musical takes place in
Avonlea, a tiny farming village in Prince
Edward Island. Resident Designer, Andrew
Stearn has created with the aid of a rotating
set an exciting design which features a
railway station, a farmhouse, a schoolyard
and many other different scenes.
Lesley Ballantyne, who stars as Anne in
"Anne of Green Gables" says "the set is
technically. quite complicated but it's a lot of
fun to work on. The set turns very slowly in
some scenes and remains stationary in
others."
The revolving part of the set measures 24
feet in diameter. "This will probably be our
most complicated set of the season", says
Production Manager Ray Salverda.

ing World War II.
