Parade planned for Township 1-5-0
GODERICH TOWNSHIP Everyone loves a
parade. It seems to reflect the friendly and
cooperative spirit that is within a communi-
ty. A parade has been planned in
Holmesville on July 20 for Goderich
Township's 1.5-0 celebrations to say HAPPY
150th GODERICH TOWNSHIP.
The parade, committee chairperson, Bill
Lobb, has been working hard to make sure it
will contain a good variety of floats and
bands. He is assisted by committee
members: Jack Tebbutt, Bill Crawford,
David Orr, Jane McCllnchey and George
Bacon. They have been planning for the last
six months to make everything run
smoothly for the sesquicentennial parade.
The route chosen by the committee begins
at the new Township Shed. All people par-
ticipating in the parade are asked to be
there and ready by 11:00 a.m. for judging.
The parade will begin at 1:00 p.m. sharp. It
will travel North from the shed, turn left at
the Community Centre and then turn right
on the Cut Line to head towards the store. It
will head East along the old Highway 8 route
and disperse at the Township Ball Park.
Lobb said they enlisted the assistance of the
Goderich C.B. Club for a communications
network.
Judges are from the three area television
stations and some local municipal leaders.
Monetary prizes will be awarded to the first
three winners in each classification. All
children on decorated bicycles will receive a
token of gratitude for their efforts. Par-
ticipation and quality floats will certainly be
rewarded by the committee.
Lobb reported that over 50 floats already
are registered. The majority are from peo-
ple out of the Township. He encourages the
Township residents to submit their entries
as promptly as possible. At least six Shriner
units have confirmed their participation.
Bands are favourites of the spectators and
five definitely will add their talents to, the
event. Antique cars, light and heavy horses
and children on decorated bicycles will also
be included. Interest has been expressed to
have family floats as a separate registration
category and the cornmitte has now an addi-
tional category for all those families who
wish to enter a float.
Lobb was satisfied that people would en-
joy themselves and that everything is
organized for July .20. If anyone wants to be
part of the 1-5-0 parade, they can contact
Community to help family
HOLMESVILLE - This community has
launched a financial appeal to help the
Albert Leibold family. The Leibolds lost
their trailer home and all their belongings in
a house fire on Sunday.
Until further arrangements are made peo-
ple are asked to make donations at the
Holmesville Store or to Glen Price at Clere-
Vu Auto Wreckers. Financial help will be
greatly appreciated and receipts will be
given for income tax purposes.

bour Park.

yard.. They were accompanied by Mrs.

formed at Brookside on Friday morning.
Their principal, Mr. Angus MacLennan, in-

The student's council is organizing a Fun
Day for Thursday, June 20 in the afternoon.
Mrs. Marie Wilkins made home-made
bread, with Mrs. Ottewell's and Mrs.

studies. Mrs. Graham made butter and Mrs.
Karen Roberts helped make rhubarb crisp.
They had 1a pioneer dinner on Thursday and

with native Indians in the North West Ter-
ritories and on the reservation at Sandy
Lake in northern Ontario, spoke to Miss
Jewitt's Grade 2 class and to the Grade 7
and 8 classes on Friday afternoon.
They had studied Indians of long ago but
she told them how the Indians live today and
showed them some beautiful leather and
beaded articles made by the Indians. Sandy
Lake is near Manitoba and only accessi-

Since the Township was in the parade
planning mood they decided to participate
in parades this year throughout the area. A
float committee was created in late April
composed of Millie Lobb as chairperson,
Marty Lobb, Gayle Wilson, Bill and Bev
Chowen, Bev Vanhuys and Jane McClin-
chey. They have used the float to advertise
the 1-5-0 events. Their creation also was an
opportunity to let neighbouring com-
munities hear the Township Sesquicenten-
nial song, written originally by Gerry Ginn
but revised by many. Eight people are in-
volved each time with the float, some on it
and others handing out balloons and pam-
phlets. They have had no prOblem getting
people to take part.
The spectators' response has been very
good, according to Lobb. She said her com-
mittee has had to work hard getting it ready
to go on the road but they all enjoy it: Maybe
they realize that everyone does love a
parade and when you know people will ap-
preciate what you are doing it makes it
easier to continue.
Note to Fastball Players:
Any Goderich Township men's fastball
players who wish to take part in a practice
