Winds and storms bring
more rocks to area beaches
High water levels and recent storms ac-
companied by brisk winds has ruined
about $8,000 of town work, at the main
beach.
The town spent the money, as it does
each year, to screen the sand at the main
beach, thereby eliminating most of the
stones. But recent storms have simply
reduced the beach to stone again.
"It was a good job for a week and now
there's nothong," parks chairman John

Doherty said. "It will cost five to six thou-
sand again." •
The committee will not make attempts
to screen the sand at the beach but will
have the rocks scraped away.
Doherty said he was once told that dum-
ping about 50 used cars half a mile out into
the lake would trap the rocks and that only
sand would wash ashore. Don Wheeler sug-
gested that a gabion might help the situa-
tion.

isler asks
for extension
leaird Eisler's hot dog wagon will be.
allowed to'stay at the corner of The Square
and Hamilton Street inti) a further recom-
mendation is made at the next Goderich
adnn,inistrative committee meeting, coun-
cil decided at its June 17 meeting.
Eisler informed council in a letter he's
been unable to find a new location for his
business and asked for an extension to his
July 15 deadline.
"This issue has certainly caused a lot of
discussion and it's not the intention of
council to put Mr. Eisler out of business,"
said Coun. Bill -Clifford.
"A compromise has to'be worked out
and its not unusual to have a lease on
public land at the 'harbor. Perhaps some
nominal fee could be paid for a land lease
so he could continue to operate," he said.
Further racOmmendations will come out
of the administrative committee meeting.
Canada Day
festivities
may be,_ cut
Because only half of the anticipated
$4000 was granted to the Town of Goderich .
for Cataada Day festivities from The
Secretary of State, celebrations may have
to be pared down,.
In response to a question from Coun. Bill
Clifford about where the funds will come
from with only a $2000 grant, Clerk
Administrator Larry McCabe said the
Canada Day committee would have to take
a second look at the budget for festivities.
"We'll take another look at it and try to
live within the budget," McCabe said ad-
ding that the Goderich Legion had donated
another $600 towards the civic reception
with Bay City civic and Legion dignitaries.
Coun. Don Wheeler recommended that
the budget be cut by eliminating events not
taking place on Canada Day itself.
McCabe said the advertising budget
would be the one most likely to be cut since
it would be difficult to cut anything else.
