Car wash. raises $350
Dear editor,
Last Saturday, the Canada Employment
Centre for Students had a fund raising car
wash for the Barrie area tornado victims to
kick off Hire -A -Student -Week.
Despite the constant threat of rain,
Goderich and area residents turned out in
force to donate approximately $350 to help
the tornado victims.
A great number of 'organizations con-
tributed to the success of the car wash. The
Canada Employment Centre for Students
would like to thank C.H. Epps of Clinton,
The Suncoast Mall, and the Goderich P.U.C.
for their time and equipment, all.area mer-
chants for helping publicize the event, the
numerous students who volunteered their
time, and everyone who brought their car to
get it washed and support the tornado fund.
All of these groups contributed greatly to
the suss of the car wash.
It should be noted, however, that although
what was raised will help. the tornado vic-
tims. it is nnl'v adeem in thn hnnTrpt If von

Most Canadians say Jesus Christ
is the Son of God says reader
Dear Editor:
I am writing in reply to "Why Do Most
Canadians Claim that Jesus Christ is God?"
by C:F . Barney. ' \
Most Canadians don't say Jesus Christ is
God. They say that He is the only begotten
Son of God. We have much the same thing
here on earth, as for example, the executor
of a will, or one writing a letter to the paper.
They express the will of the individual; it is
the same thing as the individual actually
being there ( the legal term would be power
of attorney to act on that persons' behalf.)
In regards to the name Jehovah, it was
used for the first time in 1518 by one by the
name of Galatinus. It is possible he was a
clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church.
As Mr. Barney mentioned in a previous
letter, it was derived from the
tetragranunaton YHWH, or Kurios and
Adhonai, which means Lord in the Hebrew
language. It was created or invented -by
man, so this accounts for its deletion in some
of the more recent translations of the Bible.
This may be one of . the reasons why
Raymond Franz said the Witnesses' religion
was based on myth.
The true name for God was used in the
Temple, and was known only to the most
elect of the High Priests. The ineffable name
was used on Yom Kippur which means Day
of Atonement. It was said by some that when
this word was not used properly, it, invoked
creative forces.
This is why the third Commandmery,t was
written, "Thou shalt not take the name of
thy Lord God in vain, for the Lord will not
hold him guiltless for taking His name in
vain."
Because of the lack of its use, and the way
the Hebrew scriptures were rolled, I assume
this attributed to its obliteration over a
period of years.
In the day of the Apostles, . Jesus
substituted Lord for this name, and the
Apostles followed suit.
Here's a note of interest concerning the
Witness Bible - the first revision was made
in 1961, the second in 1970 and the third in
1971. I believe there's a great possibility
they need more revision as it still leaves
much to be desired.
Former resident would
like to meet old classmates
Dear Editor:
I graduated from Central Public School in
1949. At that time my family moved from
Goderich. I was there for one day ten years
ago and I'm returning for a few days the
first week in July. I was born there July 4,
1935.
We moved from Kintaii to Goderich in
1945 and my four years there were my
childhood's fondest.
Would it be possible for you to inform me
if any of my classmates live in the vicinity"
These are names I remember: Eleanor
Lauder, Jane Graham, Sheila Gallow, Jean
Langlois. Lorne Rivers, Malcolm Campbell,
Sincerely yours,
N.J. Minaker
Ted MacLean, Doug Patterson, Bill Mac-
Donald, Catherine MacDonald and Bob Bak -
ter (Goderich) July 4, 1935. Any assistance
would be greatly appreciated.
It was amazing how unchanged the town
was ten years ago. I'm aware that recession
has caused change but I am very excited
about our forthcoming trip.
Waiting to hear from you and thanks.
Yours truly,
