Students
present
stories to
classmates
The students at Victoria Public School
presented their own stories to classmates,
teachers and parents last Thursday as part
of the Young Writers' Conference held at the
school.
The day's theme, `writing is for reading',
was impressed upon the children as they
shared stories and books they had written
with small groups of students and one adult.
Teachers and parents led the groups in
dis'hiission and gave each child the oppor-
tunity to. read his or her own material to the
others in the group.
The conference involved all the students
at Victoria from kindergarten through to
grade six. When they weren't in small
groups reading and discussing each others
stories, the pupils were in the library for the
presentation of 'big books', which were the
combined effort of whole classes.
The teachers's at the school use the
`writing for reading' idea throughout the
school year and find the students are quite
responsive when dealing with their own
work.
