The Goderich Signal-Star, 1985-05-22, Page 26wiewiminammaxisaimaas LCitAL NEWS It's a job finding a job says centre Michele Gaynor, supervisor for the Canada Employment Centres for Students located in Goderich and Exeter, recently an- nounced that three Student Placement Of- ficers have been hired. David MacDonald and Bill Jewitt will be working in the Goderich office while Judy Carter will be in Exeter. David MacDonald, a fourth year student of English from the University of Western Ontario and a native of Goderich, will be visiting the communities of Seaforth and Clinton each week. David's task this sum- mer is to make the Student Office services more accessible to students, homeowners, farmers, and other potential employers in these towns. Bill Jewitt lives in Londesboro and studies history at Carleton University in Ottawa. This summer, Bill will be assisting Goderich area students and employers. Students eager to find jobs can gain useful informa- tion by visiting Bill at the office located at 35 East Street, Goderich. Judy Carter is from the Londesboro area. She is a fourth year student of English and French at the University of Western On- tario. She is presently working in Exeter helping students and employers meet their summer employment needs. There is no doubt about it, the job situa- tion is tight. However, the staff of the Canada Employment Centre for Students is optimistic. Students will findjobs if- they follow a few simple rules: tell everyone you are looking for a job (word of mouth is im- portant); make a list of all possible employers; visit all of these employers; keep looking at the want ads in your local newspaper; keep your ears open and visit the Employment Centre regularly. It is a job to find a job. Contrary to what some people think, most students want to work and are sincere in their job searches. The Centre always has enough students to fill jobs but not enough job orders from employers. Students are reliable and versatile resources in the Goderich area during the er months. They are available on sho?tn notice to - do any kind of job for homeowners, who need the eaves painted or the garage cleaned out, and for employers needing temporary help to meet summer peaks in production; they can replace vaca- tioning staff, and are also potential perma- nent staff. Students are willing and able to work right now for as long as you need them. The Canada Employment Centre for Students is a fast andi, effective contact for farmers, businesses, and individual homeowners in town or in the country. If you • have something that needs to be done, they have the student to do it - just dial 524-2744. Supervisor of the Student Employment Office Michele Gaynor and placement officers, Bill Jewitt (kneeling), and David MacDonald are ready to help students find summer jobs throughout Huron County.
