petition the Ontario legislature for a full

conscience by government members on the
issue. '
Rev. Peter Davison, Huron's Ecumenical
Officer, reminded the delegates of efforts
made in recent years towards unity with the
Roman Catholic Church. "We must try to
understand the historic position of our
Roman Catholic friends on this issue," he
told the more than 500 clergy and lay
delegates from 160 parishes across
southwestern Ontario.
In an earlier motion Synod agreed,
through• its presiding officer, Bishop Der-
wyn D. Jones, to urge the Ontario govern-
ment to provide greater emphasis on moral
values and religious education in the school
system. .
In other business during the two-day
meeting, Synod received reports from the
Long Range Planning Committee calling for
a diocesan planning officer and approved in
principle the appointment of a co-ordinator
of native Indian ministries.
A resolution on .Sunday openings urged
delegates to petition the Ontario • govern-
ment to retain Sunday as a public holiday.

$449,543.41 had been received by May 1, 1985
for overseas aid in famine -stricken areas.

$110,0uu 1,111) year, delegates decided to hold .
a fall Synod, to be held in London in
November, to discuss next year's budget.
