Clinton/Main Corner, Seaforth fiR Men's slowpitch league opens season Sunday BY BREWSTER The 1985 Goderich Men's Slowpitch League got off to a great start Saturday night at our first ever spring dance. A fan- tastic turn -out. If the enthusiasm evident at the dance carries over to the ball dia- mond, then we're all in for a great year. Congratulations are extended to Goderich Chrysler and Canadian Tire for best support at the dance. Congratulations are also extended to John Hruden for sug- gesting and organizing this event. I'm sure it will become an annual affair. Saturday night really was a lot of fun, but as our schedule kicked into gear Sun- day, it was business as usual. The weather- man did his best to ce-operate and all six .scheduled games were played. It was fun to look around the diamond and -renew old - acquaintances. There is Thumper at third and Hawk over at first, a combination as old as baseball itself ! But there are some new faces in our league this year and one to look for is Don McDonald. He hit two home -runs, one a grand slam, to help the Coyotes blast the Gators 19 to 4. Not to be outdone, Canadian Tire picked up where they left off last year and blank- ed the Renegades 24 - 0 in five. Port Albert Bulldog, edged Local 1863 by a score of 25 - 12 in a game that was much closer than the score would indicate. Ideal Supply defeated Murphy Green Machine 12 - 2 while Goderich Chrysler took advantage of errors to beat Garb & Gear 12 - 1. Del Almeida was two for two, with one RBI to highlight the Garb & Gear play. In the final game, Goderich Nissan came back late in the game to the Little Bowl. Well, that is six games down, 165 to go in the regular season and I didn't get a single complaint today. How about that! The next league meeting is scheduled for Monday May 27 at 8:00 p.m. in the Com- mittee Room above the Grandstand. Be on time, as the fine structure now allows only a 10 minute grace period. Final eligibility lists are due on May 31. Our GMSL seventh annual tournament is set for August 2 - 5. Entry forms can be picked up from Bruce Baker if you don't already have one. Goderich teams are urg- ed to apply by May 31 to avoid disappoint- ment. Proceeds will be used to benefit your league. Support for your tournament is your responsibility. Tune in next week for more updates. Catch you then. 8,X4 TAR, ctiit 1 1 1 • • 00.00 Too %le oke o qgc deP®x';t.
