Petition supporting hot dog wagon
A petition with 170 signatures in support
of Laird Eisler's hot dog wagon was
presented to council at its meeting Monday
by Deputy Reeve John Doherty who said
that 300 to 400 more signatures could be ex-
pected.
Along with the petition, Doherty,
• presented a motion asking to repeal the
previous motion and to allow Eisler to
operate his wagon until he can find another
location where he can operate profitably.
"Because of all the letters and
signatures, I felt I had to bring up the topic
• again. One petitign is from the Esso Ser-
vice Station where many tourists stop who
know -where the hot dog wagon is," he said.
He asked council to reconsider its
deadline of July 15 for Eisler to relocate
because he hasn't found at new location
yet.
"I think this motion is a bit premature. I
talked to Mr. Eisler and suggested he keep
a log of the places he investigated. If he is
unable to find a place by the deadline, I
wld han to emu back- and ask fig an ex:—
tension," said Mayor Eileen Palmer.
Counc. Bill Clifford asked why Eisler did
not attend the council meeting.
"i m open -burl don't believe an all out
effort has been made (to find a new loca-
tion 1. The impression has been made that
we might put this poor man out of business
and that really isn't the case," he said. '
"I'm quite sure we'll put him out of
business if we don't let him relocate in a
place where he can operate in a profitable
manner," said Doherty, who added he was
representing those who signed the petition.
A number of those signing the petition do
not live in Goderich so Doherty may not be
representing them, said Coune. Glen
Carey who added he would not change the
motion without first hearing from those on
both sides of the issue.
"We operate under the principle of deal- ,
ing open handedly with people on both
sides of an issue. Eisler isn't here and the
other side certainly isn't here so we
haven't really heard from either side," he
said.

Counc. Jim Searls said Eisler did not at-
tend the meeting because he didn't want
council to think the petitions were col-
lected by -him.
The motion was tabled until the meeting
prior to the July 15 deadline in a 5 to 4 -
recorded vote.
