Do you have eternal life BY REV. H: VRIEND My concern today is with the question: "Why are so many people not sure they have eternal life?" Why are there so many vague answerswhen you .ask _people,"Do y-ou have the gift of eternal life?" No doubt there are a number of reasons for the uncertainty and the vagueness. One possibility is that unsure people do not have a relationship with Christ. This is the possibility that, in spite of much in- struction and many religious advantages, many people still have not begun to live with Jesus. They may know the way 'to Christ, they might be able to tell someone how to find Christ, and yet they have not travelled the way to Christ themselves. One example will highlight the possibility that I am concerned with. If you are in a new town and want to visit a friend in that town, you might stop at a gas station to ask for" - directions. The attendant gives you good - directions: two blocks north, then the first left turn, and it's the red house on the Ieft. You memorize the instructions, and then ask what else is doing in town. There is plen- ty doing, so you go off to see the sights of the town. You know how to get to your friend's MINISTER'S STU 1Y house ana you could easily find the hooee--if---------- you went, but you put off_ actually going there. • n a similar sense, there are thousands w io know the way to Christ - the way of„ith a d repentance and self surrender. Still, they haven't gone to make his acquaintance because there are so many other attractive possibilities. They know the way to Christ, but haven't gone to meet him, and so do not possess eternal life. The word says, "He who has the Son has life; he who has not the son of God has not life.” Clearly, it is not enough to know about the Son. It is not enough to know the way to the Son. What is required is a personal relation- ship with Christ. What is required is a per- sonal journey to meet the Savior, and then a living with Him and a willingness to follow His leading. Such a life with Christ is the present reality of eternal life. Such a life opens the way to the future promise of, life eternal! - "Focus on .the Family" film series will be shown at Parish Hall St. Peter's Parish Community in Goderich is holding a series of films and discussions at their hall on the corner of North and Anglesea streets beginning on February 17.
