Cattlemen
jain fo.c.e S:
to fill void
Cattlemen have joined forces recently to
form the "Concerned Cattlemen of Ontario"
organization. These cattlemen have united
to fill the void in leadership created when
the Minister of Agriculture and Food, the
Hon. Dennis Timbrell, gave the OCA
executive a choice of deciding between one'
of two alternatives.
The first alternative would give cattlemen
a vote prior to the implementation of the
Beef Marketing .Agency 'provided the OCA
Executive and the OCA newsletter, Breeder
and Feeder, take no public stance on the
plan recommended by the Beef Marketing
Agency Commission. The second
alternative placed before the OCA
Executive was that the Minister would
impletnent the plan recommended by the
commission - with no, vote up front. The
OCA Executive chose the first alternative
giving cattlemen a vote prior to
implementation, of the Commission Report
and thereby agreeing to the Minister's issue
of silence.
Thus, concerned cattlemen have joined
together to fill the void created by loss of
-t Pi leeted spokesmen and to further the
following objectives:
1) To generate an objective review and
assessment of the report.
Tn communicate fact, analysis and
ideas to cattlemen and to stimulate them to
a well informed evaluation of the plan,
considering both the advantage and.
disadvantages.
3) To challenge the Commissioners and
the Minister, to provide evidence to backup
the recommendations and to demonstrate
that the recommendations respresent
producer Opinion or would benefit -the
industry,
4) To support, in general, an improved
market information service for cattlemen,
and more comprehensive supervision of
weighing and carcass dressing procedures.
5) To promote awareness .of the
importance of a cattlemen's organization
which starts with a Workable local unit and
which democratically elects accountable
representatives' and delegates,at the county,
provincial and national levels: •
6y To promote an -awareness ofthe
importance of an organization which
represents the broad interests of cattlemen,
of which Marketing'is only one component.
Fifty concerned cattlemen met in January
sit Hospeler, Ontario and elected gelate of
officers to develop Plans to further the above
objectives. The Concerned Cattlemen of
Ontario welcome other cattlemen with
similar concerns to join with them in their
efforts.

LAMB
In loving mdrnory of my wonderful husband,
Robert Dawson, who passed away 15 years ago,
January 30th, 1970. ,
He was someone 1 could tack to
That no one can replace
He was someone 1 could la'lgh with
Till tears ran down my face
He wasomeone I could turn to
When I heeded a helping hated
He was someone I could count on
To advise and understand
He was someone I thought more of,
• as each year came to an end
He was my dearest husband,
and also my dearest friend:
Thank you for the memories
That are yours and mine alone '
' For they recall so many special
moments i have known.
1 remember the day God called him,
and will -till the end of time,
But my love for him will always keep
It will not fade, for it was too deep,
and all the memory gates will never close
F'or I miss him more than anyone knows,
And'as long as 1 live, I ,will cherish his name
In memory_I see him ever the same
Still in my heart you are jiving yet • .
For.I loved you too dearly to every forget.
Sadly missed by his loving wife, Myrtle, sons
Harald and Dawson, grandchildren, andpreat
grandchildren. --06
